The Biden administration is proposing to tighten standards for pollution coming from coal-fired power plants.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said Tuesday that it is proposing to strengthen restrictions under the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards for the first time in more than a decade.
The agency said it will update limits for pollutants, including lead, nickel and arsenic, by 67 percent for all coal power plants. Exposure to these substances raises the risk of developmental delays in children, as well as heart attacks and cancer.
It will also increase mercury controls by 70 percent for some power plants — specifically those that use a type of coal known as lignite, which have been operating under looser mercury limits than other coal plants. Lignite plants are located primarily in North Dakota and Texas, EPA officials said Wednesday.

Dang! how are all the electric cars going to get recharged?
Unicorn Phartz???
I hate the Dims' stupid war on cheap energy. But it is what it is so we did what we could in our family to make us as energy independent as possible. The one thing solar brings to the table is it can be implemented in a decentralized fashion so that it can be an energy source we don't have to plead from bureaucrats to please oh please give us morsels of energy.
Call me when China stops building 1 new coal fired plant per week....(India is about half that pace....)
Yep, without coal base load and gas fired peakers, wind and solar will cause extreme grid instability. Get ready for lots of outages as government pursues the green dream
After a few years we kept the house but had to relocate for our jobs. The electricity bill for heat was over $400 per month with the thermostat set at 55 degrees during the winter months.
Very true. Good point.
My sister just retired from 45 years teaching math to middle and high school kids, the last ten in inner city Baltimore. The “developmental delays” in that environment are truly not believable. Kids graduate from high school not knowing how to divide one-half by two.
They will permit continued use of coal ae long as burn temp remains below 90 degrees F...
It’s the Green Raw Deal
The most efficient home heating I've ever experienced.
This summer we can talk about kerosene refrigerators. One gallon of kerosene runs the refrigerator for six months. Absolutely astonishing.
“And I have 80% of the power I need in my all-electric home provided free, including charging the EV for most of our driving.“
Not quite free…how long to amortize the installation casts?
“Kids graduate from high school not knowing how to divide one-half by two.”
Until they break in to the drug business; then their math skills improve exponentially!
Thanks. Yes there was always one out of ten or twenty who really wanted an education, wanted to excel, wanted to go to go to college, sought help, and had parents who cared. She thrived on those kids. She would often run into kids twenty years after teaching them and they would than her profusely and say what a difference she made in their lives. They acknowledged that her tough grading made them work hard to get ahead.
She says those rewards always made the profession very rewarding.
“Green Raw Deal”
Yep. High price and unreliable power that wastefully consumes ungodly amounts of scarce minerals from thousands of new mines worldwide, most controlled by China.

it will update limits for pollutants, including lead, nickel and arsenic

How much nickel does a person get if they rub their fingers on a nickel coin?
It may be lethal levels, if the Feds’ levels are in the molecular levels, like they have been heading towards.
Nope. I purpose tighter limits on the EPA.
