Michigan Democrat Gov. Whitmer Signs Gun Control Bills that Wouldn’t Have Prevented Michigan State Shooting
Breitbart ^ | 04/13/2023 | AWR HAWKINS

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed two new gun control measures in response to the February 13, 2023, Michigan State University shooting, neither of which would have prevented that shooting from taking place.

The Detroit News reported that one of the bills is universal background check legislation. The other is a gun storage law.

Michigan already has a law requiring a background check for a handgun via a permitting process. The newly signed legislation expands that to cover long guns too.

just liberals being liberals

They have no faith in God, so they compensate for that by trying to control everything, even that over which they have no control.

so they believe that if there were no guns, murder would stop, ect.

Liberals do this with everything, thus the constant churn of “miracle foods” that will help you live forever, ect.

Not stupid, but rather evil. The Democrat goal is a disarmed and helpless populace ruled with an iron fist with every idiotic democrat whim and fantasy enforced be armed agents of the state. Call someone by the wrong made up pronoun and it’s assault. Defend yourself from violent criminals and go to jail. Etc. this only works with a disarmed populace

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family?”

That is why they call themselves “progressives”, the left knows not to throw the frog into boiling water, but to just slowly turn up the heat. They are playing the long game while the media, social media, etc. does the knee jerking reaction to cover it up and take focus away from their true goal of socialism.

Freedom is not destroyed from an invasion on the front lines or shores, its destroyed by slow erosion from within. The Grand Canyon was not formed overnight.

I’m guessing they’ve carefully poll-tested to see how far the can push without getting a reaction that overcomes the Wayne county fraud machine.

But of course, we all know the point of gun laws isn’t to take away guns from them, it’s to take them away from us!

To residents of Michigan:

As you probably already know, Michigan has a handgun registration system where the Michigan State Police maintains a database of all registered handguns and their owners.

How it currently works is that before you purchase a pistol from a private individual you must first obtain a pistol purchase permit from your local police department or county sheriff, depending on your jurisdiction.

If you purchase your pistol from an FFL, then they will fill out a pistol license form.

Once you purchase the pistol, both the seller and the buyer would sign the three copies of the pistol license form. The seller would retain one copy, and give two copies to the buyer. The buyer would retain one copy, and turn in the last copy to their local police or sheriff department for registration with the Michigan State Police.

Once the bill that Whitless signed today goes into effect, the burden of turning in a copy of the pistol license to the local police shifts from the buyer to the seller.

I believe this was done because the MSU shooter Anthony McRae had legally purchased the handgun he used in his February 13 rampage on the Michigan State University campus, but he never turned in a copy of the pistol license to his local police as required. So now the legislature is making it the responsibility of the seller to turn in this paperwork.

More hastles for FFLs, and a bigger burden on private sellers.

As I understand it, it also adds long guns to that, though I’d like to be wrong on that.

It requires you to get the same (or a very similar) license to purchase a long gun from a private individual, but long guns are not subject to registration by the Michigan State Police. Once you get the license, you sign it, the seller signs it, then you each keep a copy and it's done.

If you buy from an FFL you don't need to get the license from the police or sheriff. A purchase record will be provided by the FFL, just as they do now for handguns.

They didn't think this law through, which is true of most of these knee-jerk gun laws. They require you to have a license to transport a long gun within the state, but they also grandfathered all existing long guns and won't require you get licenses for all of the ones you already own.

So how are they to know that the gun you have in your trunk was before or after the license requirement?

Serial number those manufactured after the requirement date will need a license.

The state legislature is now controlled by Democrats who are hell bent on rolling back all the gains that have been accomplished by our pro firearms groups over the past 21 years.

The fraudulent election of 2020 had far more repercussions than just the presidency.

Agree with the sentiment, but suspect asymmetric warfare principles will be more effective than defending against a 20 man SWAT team. Self forging directional munitions and RPGs accounted for about half the US casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. Can’t do much about creating something that’s as complex as RPGs in your basement, but starting with sulfuric acid and a few other ingredients and following online formulas you could get to the anti armor and anti personnel devices - though to do so would be blatantly illegal and considerably more dangerous to your freedom than gun control at the moment. Though if confiscations start I would think that would be the tipping point.
