A super PAC that was once positioned to help Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., capture the 2024 Republican presidential nomination has closed shop and announced that it will shift its support to President Donald Trump, the Daily Mail revealed.

In early 2023, legal counsel for DeSantis noted that the PAC, “Ron to the Rescue” was “similar to other ‘pro-DeSantis’ PACs that have formed and continue to use Ron DeSantis’ name and likeness to raise funds without his permission or authorization.”

However, the Daily Mail reported that the PAC had accumulated $50 million that could have been donated to DeSantis’s current 2024 presidential campaign bid.

Reportedly, the PAC was initially founded by John Thomas, who is a well-known GOP strategist in political circles.

In comments made to the Daily Mail, Thomas explained that he saw DeSantis’s presidential campaign launch in May on Twitter Spaces as a “blunder” and noted that that he believed the Florida governor’s decision to debate California Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., was one of many “rookie s**t” errors.

JUST IN: Governor Ron DeSantis' $50 million super PAC is shutting down as donors are beginning to jump ship.

According to the Daily Mail, the super PAC will now be backing Donald Trump after they accused the governor of making "rookie s***" mistakes.

Thomas will now be utilizing the power of his PAC to back President Donald Trump, who is far and away the Republican frontrunner going into next year’s election. Additionally, the president’s multiple indictments this year have fueled massive fundraising hauls for his campaign.

As reported by RSBN, Trump pulled in more than $20 million in the month of August alone, with a massive $9.4 million of that fundraising coming in the one-week wake of his arrest at the Fulton County jail in Georgia on a 41-count indictment.

His campaign noted that the president has sold tens of thousands of t-shirts and mugs featuring “mugshot merchandise.”

The president’s stalwart dedication to running for reelection despite the legal battles being waged against him has simply served to solidify his popularity among Republican voters nationwide.

Thomas explained to the Daily Mail that he believed Trump possessed a superior level of “campaign savvy and discipline” in his 2024 presidential reelection campaign.

Your facts are not complete. The 50 million was pledged but the donors cooled and reneged. Only a very small sum was actually collected.I linked the article earlier in the thread. I do not blame the super pac. They do not appear to have done anything wrong.

Yes. It is okay. Some people like losers better than winners.

No one should have any illusions that the people behind this PAC are suddenly big MAGA supporters, but they are smart enough
to read the handwriting on the wall and to try to cut their losses.

They see Trump’s nomination (and perhaps general election win) as inevitable and don’t want to lose a seat at the table if/when that happens.

As they should. With what the left is doing, every candidate, PAC, and GOP funding group, should stop their campaign or other money contributions, and declare their support for Trump. Or do they think the left will not eventually come for their preferred candidate as well? If so, how foolish! Pence especially should be ashamed of himself. I wonder how much money is being paid for him to turn to the dark side?

A super PAC set up to back Ron DeSantis with $50 million is closing as donors backed out - while its founder said the Florida governor’s campaign was guilty of ‘rookie s**t’ mistakes and he will now back Donald Trump.

Before the Twitter Spaces launch, the strategist, who has worked on races in 49 states, had a swath of donors who wanted to put up ‘seven- and eight-figure support’ for DeSantis.

The PAC only ended up spending around $20,000 on grassroots efforts to drum up support for the governor.

This was the same Super PAC that DeSantis warned people against donating to back in November, saying he had no affiliation with it whatsoever

That is irrelevant. A candidate is not allowed to coordinate to a super pac, nor is the super pac allowed to donate to the candidate. I did post the relevant statute earlier. The other super pac has acted in a questionable manner coordinating with the candidate. DeSantis’ motives in directing traffic to the other super pac may reflect that fact.

If RDS is a loser, everyone is a loser. This is flat out stupid.

RDS is a good governor of my state. Problem is he lacks charisma to win a national election.

I love Trump now, Bud. I have no apology for distrusting a man who contributed to the Clintons, Pelosi, Schumer, etc. Yes, I still voted for him, and he far surpassed my expectations.

RDS is my man, no matter what.

Same here, polls be damned. At the end of the day, I didn't have to abandon every conservative principle I've ever held to support him.

The problem with Trump is that his negatives are too high. Too many will not vote for him.

I was going to post a meaty rebuttal but there are so many filings for campaign finance violations back & forth by DeSantis campaign, Trump campaign and independent watch dogs that it seems the rules are honored more in the breech.
The group that is switching to Trump appears to have behaved properly.
The DeSantis campaign has many complaints about it’s relationship with pacs and I found at least one against the Trump campaign.
This is the most concrete one I found. The issues are complex and violations are apparently ubiquitous.

An election watchdog organization has filed a second complaint relating to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ political campaign, alleging a Canadian hedge fund made more than $167,000 in illegal contributions to his operation. The non-partisan, Washington, D.C.-based Campaign Legal Center is asking the Federal Election Commission to investigate Toronto-based ECN Capital Corporation for violating federal campaign finance laws that prohibit contributions from foreign nationals and foreign corporations. The Federal Election Campaign Act prohibits the contributions to U.S. elections and also bans foreign nationals from participating in any decision-making process with regard to making a political contribution.
