except for that pesky “we want all your guns...you know, for the children”. the really smart men who wrote down all of the natural human rights we all want to enjoy in a CODIFIED form to avoid any misconceptions instinctively knew that one day there would come a government that would fight tooth and nail to dissolve any human rights to freedom and stated so in many writings we still have to this day. IF Americans can be totally disarmed then no one can say NO! and if you do? you will be silenced. welcome to the benevolent government the majority of voting Americans voted for. cheated you say? Of course back in the day small towns mostly got their cops by recruiting young retirees from the big city. That’s how Brody landed in Jaws. And really for a lot of these do they really need them? If you’re a town of under 10,000 just let the county handle it, give them jurisdiction and move on.

Sorry the fact that this has been going on for 45 years shows it very much is NOT by design. Actually the article even says the trend has SLOWED. 12 in the last 2 years, to get to 521 in 45 years you’re averaging 12 a year. So the last 2 years have slowed to half speed.

No it started in the 70s when people started fleeing small towns. Once the freeways connected the country people got out of small towns. Hard to hire cops when nobody lives there.

Law enforcement academy requirements sunk small town police. Local cops used to be local guys. Now they are ‘professionals’ with no particular loyalty to the community, and will move on to the next higher paying job.
Small communities simply can’t afford an all-pro police department. Paying county sheriffs for protection is a very reasonable solution.
In democrat held territory ?
There should be an electoral college system COUNTY wide. Those of us in BLUE “states” but in RED counties are FED UP with the cities disenfranchising our votes!
It then falls on the county and state for service.
How much longer can the town actually be viable as a town?
