Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) is looking into opening taxpayer-funded, city-owned grocery stores in areas in which businesses have pulled out due to rampant crime.
Johnson announced a partnership with the Economic Security Project to look into the possibility of opening city-owned grocery stores. The first step in the partnership will be to perform a feasibility study, but the city did not provide a timeline, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Johnson claimed his administration is “committed to advancing innovative, whole-of-government approaches to address these inequities.”

Yes it is, if one’s goal is to destroy a Nation and make it over again according to maniacal, totalitarian, sick dreams.
RUN from this trap. It won’t work.
Ha! The gibsmedats are probably already lining up!
If they wanted to do a disappear, It was either into a drum full of concrete, and into the Lake, or the Illinois State Barge Canel, or a fast trip to the Gary steel mills, and into a blast furnace. Tony Spilotro was beaten to death, and buried in an Indiana corn field.
If they wanted to make a point, it was public. The Outfit would stick the body in the trunk of his own car, and park it at O'Hare long term parking. The Chicago PD would cruise slowly through the lot, in the spring, with the windows rolled down, sniffing...
Are there laws against a government agency competing against private citizens & private companies????
They should name the store Teenz
Can’t they just bring in a Cuban or North Korean grocery store chain that has experience keeping the shelves bare and bread moldy? Why reinvent the wheel?
Who would sell products to these stores? They better get the cash up front!
Nobody will want to steal the rotten potatoes, moldy bread, rancid pig knuckles, discolored and smelly chicken legs, and soft brown apples so that should help solve some of their theft problems and there likely won't be nearly so many 350 lb women with huge bootys.
Consider the great new government grocery store glass "half full".
True, A majority of people living in Chicago already qualify for food and other assistance as their income level is below a set amount. They get a prepaid credit card [EBT] that is accepted at food and convenience stores. If the is a baby or kid in the family, they get SNAP card too which lets them buy baby food and other kid/baby necessities.
The city does not need to go into the food market business as the private sector can do that. It would help if the cops and courts would catch and prosecute shoplifters. Government is mostly a failure at being a government, so expect government run stores to be a bust, too.
yup, exactly what i was thinking...
i still remember them in the city
His IQ must be about 75.
Yep. Even the current attempts, Venezuela & Bolivia, won't open their eyes.

I look for Chile to slide into socialism fairly soon. The Communist party is part of the governing alliance and has outsized influence on policies and the media has gone hard left.
They may need another Pinochet soon.
