I've set foot once in a movie theater in the last 20 years...and that was to see “Oppenheimer”.I don't stream anything...Netflix,etc. I have a pretty big collection of DVDs and Blurays...about 90% of them were bought used on ebay.I don't have cable...so the networks don't get anything from cable bills that I pay.

I had some fun posting to a (leftist) Reddit discussion group that had a bunch of Hollywood writers in it.

I suggested that the supply of talented writers far exceeded the demand so that basic Economics would suggest that their wages should go down.

They went ballistic—lol.

[[There was an era when Hollywood celebrities and film creators were treated as a kind of modern royalty, a representation of the heights to which the average person could strive and “make it big.”]]

Yeah, but hidden and kept secret during that period was the fact that some of the stars were really repugnant human beings- rapists, pedophiles, murderers etc- Back then it was covered up- today it’s celebrated almost-

MeToo movement

I noticed the quality coming from Hollywood had gone way down ever since the MeToo movement became a thing a couple years ago. Hollywood is so woke so they forgot how to entertain. Best example? James Bond. He's no longer a womanizer. But that's not Bond.

Hollywood has been producing ‘entertainment’ for 12 year old boys for a very long time.

The plots are completely sophomoric, tons of slang and other street dialogue, grade ‘0’ actors who are photogenic bimbos who only portray crudely one dimensional characters, wall to wall ‘action’ and other mindless and computerized trivialities, etc.

In the meantime, ticket prices are stupid.

It’s been 20 years since I set foot in a movie theater. It’s been years since I’ve watched anything on television. And I don’t subscribe to cable, satellite or any streaming services. I don’t miss any of it.

Please let the death of Hollywood continue and more importantly, RUN EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM OUT OF GEORGIA. Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.

I’d gladly volunteer to run an excavator and/or wrecking ball to tear down all of their studios and facilities.

I mean Taylor Sheridan preaches some

Or his masters force it

Among many reasons for the downfall of Hollywood (and it's real) is one critical one that grows more glaring by the day: writing and direction have declined in quality to the point where the best acting isn't even relevant. Disney's current difficulties with a truly grotesque mutation of Snow White (for the stale excuse of "reimagining it for Today's Audience"), turning classic romance into a grim feminist anthem, is a case in point - they're doing this because they don't have any better material and because management has morphed from entertainment to social engineering, lately due to the demands of the money men but also due to addressing a deterioration of their cultural relevancy by attempting to strong-arm the culture itself. Which is fine, one supposes, if one happens to be an apparatchik in a communist ministry of entertainment but not where people have the choice as to where to spend their hard-earned cash.

Woke has killed Hollywood or at least mortally wounded it, and the people there refuse to admit it with a stubborn arrogance more typical of a Grievance Studies sophomore or a cult member than an honest vendor. They were always liberal, often communist, but generally managed at least to be subtle enough about it to make a buck. No more. We don't watch their stuff anymore, we submit to it. Or not.

Television beat the movies twice. Once in the 1950s when movie going ceased to be a weekly ritual for Americans, and once at the end of the century when cable TV was turning out more compelling work than the movies were — and then there was COVID and the lockdowns.

Today there are so many streaming services and so much content on them that some observers are saying that movies could make a comeback if they got their act together. All the streaming services make the TV universe too fragmented. People want “things they can talk about at the watercooler,” common viewing experiences that bring them together, and movies could provide that if they get people back into the theaters.

Film did have a comeback in the 1970s, when they were showing us things that television couldn’t, but I don’t think movies will rise to the occasion this time. They’ve run out of ideas, and the only projects that get financed are sequels and reboots that the industry thinks will make money.

I was shocked to see the $29.99 price tag for streaming the new Barbie movie on Amazon. A new movie streamed for 24.99 not so long ago. Bandits.

The best part these days is when the Hollywood "stars" complain about the success of movies that they personally don't like.

Industry solidarity only goes one way with them.
