While Covid-19 rates have been increasing throughout much of the country, the message from many of our public health and political leaders has become one of minimizing and denial. This is happening nationwide, but some physicians at Boston’s preeminent hospitals are more often in the news.
We know that high-quality masks work to prevent infection. But Boston area hospitals (among others) dropped masking requirements on May 12. Massachusetts General Brigham went so far as to tell patients they can no longer ask staff members to mask. This has understandably caused an outcry among immunocompromised patients who fear seeking care due to their risk of infection. I wrote about this here and here.

In the earliest days of masking I made one out of cheesecloth and yarn. Quite breathable, but the cheesecloth got soggy pretty quickly from breath moisture.

my face identifies as a mask and that is also my preferred pronoun...”my face is my mask”. IF you don’t agree with that I’ll sue you!
A White Bandana is what I had as well.

An older pharmacist friend, at the height of the mask mania, sent me a photo of surgeons operating over a patient, with a heading along the lines of “masks work”. I replied that if I had to stand over the steaming innards of somebody’s disease riddled torso I’d want to wear a mask too. Grocery shopping or working out in the gym, not so much. He has since come around to sanity, BTW.
The only safe mask to be sure you won’t get a virus from public appearances is a self contained scba unit, worn all the time. If you combine the unit with an M3 suit, HAZMET, gloves and tape, you will be sealed against anything unless the suit is punctured. But you can’t live like that. Longest I was ever in the suit was during my training for about 6 hours not using oxygen but an M17A1 and it was miserable.

“Does she come with it?”
Depends on your technique.
LOL…
If you're that person YOU wear your own mask to protect yourself. It's ridiculous for you to insist that everyone you come in contact with do it also.
“Based on this article, Ms. Stone has lost all credibility to dispense medical advice.”
Funny, I don’t see “Dr.” in front of her name so I doubt she had any credibility to lose.
Hospitals and clinics are full of sick people, which is why I wear a mask when I go for an appointment. The masks do stop most droplets of sputum coughed up by others.
From US HHS: “ At any given time, about 1 in 31 inpatients have an infection related to hospital care. These infections lead to tens of thousands of deaths and cost the U.S. health care system billions of dollars each year.”
‘Sorry-—I was yelling at the article and author-—sorry!’
yes, I knew that; I was just exercising my recommended daily allowance of snark...
After a few lines of the unreadable claptrap, I skipped to the comments section to see what the article was about. Did she ever get to the the point?
A plastic bag secured over the entire head and around the neck with several tight circuits of gorilla tape is ideal.
