Germany's cabinet on Wednesday approved putting on-reserve lignite-fired power plants back online from October until the end of March 2024, the economy ministry said, as a step to replace scarce natural gas this winter and avoid shortages.

In the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and a sudden drop in Russian gas imports to Germany, Berlin reactivated coal-fired power plants and extended their lifespans, with a total output of 1.9 gigawatt hours generated last winter.

Despite gas bottlenecks easing since last winter with new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal deliveries, coal-fired power plans will be reactivated

The first “green” shoots of sanity are starting to break through the layers of Gaia Worship the Establishment in Germany has engaged in for decades.

It has started getting painful enough that reality might have to be acknowledged in a few years.

What they;re really saying....Why in the world did we do what Biden told us to do...even though we knew it wasn't feasible.

Under their breath....sure wish we were still getting gas from Russia through Nordstream. But oh no...it would by pass Ukraine and they get a big cut of all the gas that passes through their country.

I'll take a wait and see. Germany was stuck on stupid...maybe they're coming around.

They can’t do this? What about their total commitment to the climate change agenda?

Germans are supposed to freeze for Ukraine and the climate.

Jon Cary and Greta gonna be big mad.

Energy options: Clean, Reliable and Affordable. Pick any two.

The only way you get all three is with nuke plants.

Oh my! The cost of supporting Ukraine is destroying Mother Earth by pumping dirty, wicked, and evil carbon into the atmosphere. See, the Germans don’t care about your children. They want them all to die. Only 7.2 years until we all die!

Eff Ukraine and Eff Zeepers.

She’ll be upset, for sure. But that will be nothing compared to the righteous anger of Al Gore.
After all, Germany’s move will probably wipe out all the polar bears.

The Germans should really be THANKING RUSSIA for bringing them to senses, but I can’t see that happening.

This is another benefit of the Russian invasion that I pointed out last year when the Russian messaging was that the Europeans would freeze to death as they were starving, a weakening of the environmental left, and a growing voice for more conservative politicians.
