I'm not cheering for Russia. I'm cheering against YOU.

The Mongols were a bit more complex than that.

In general, they didn’t care which religion you followed as long as you obeyed the Khagan (the great Khan) and didn’t violate any Mongol traditional law.

Islamic killing of animals (like kosher killing) violated Mongol law which was that the blood of animals should not be spilt on the ground, while Halal AND Kosher did just that.

However, except for that, there was no persecution of Muslims in the Mongol lands - there were Muslim advisors, etc.

You probably refer to Hulagu Khan who devastated Baghdad - but note that his cousin (the leader of the Golden horde in what is now southern Russia, eastern Ukraine and Tatarstan) had already converted to Islam.

In fact, Hulagu’s own grand (or great-grandson) converted to Islam and Hulagu’s dynasty - the Ilkhanates - were a Muslim Mongol (or Turco-Mongol) dynasty until they were overthrown a century later.

Anyone should have immediately known the Russians were our ally and were Nazi enemies.

The Russians - or to be precise, the Soviets - started the war as Nazi Germany's ally - the Nazi's principle ally

Thanks to Russian oil and raw materials, the Germans were able to defeat France and wound the UK.

The Russians took over eastern Poland and the Baltics as their prize for their alliance.

Later, in 1945, the Russians replaced the Germans as the conquerors of Central Europe.

The Soviets refused to ally with Britain and France because the Soviets demanded half of Poland to join the alliance.

They knew the Poles would strongly object to that. It’s why a lot of folks blame the Poles for the war, because they say the Poles “forced” the Soviets to ally with Nazi Germany.
