More than half of the U.S. and parts of Canada, home to around 180 million people, could fall short of electricity during extreme cold again this winter due to lacking natural gas infrastructure, the North American Electric Reliability Corp (NERC) said on Wednesday.
In its 2023-24 winter outlook, the regulatory authority warned that prolonged, wide-area cold snaps threaten the reliability of bulk power generation and availability of fuel supplies for natural gas-fired generation. “Recent extreme cold weather events have shown that energy delivery disruptions can have devastating consequences for electric and gas consumers in impacted areas,” NERC said.

Not to mention global warming.
Didn’t have this when Trump was president - what’s changed?
It’s all the EV’s and FJB’s fault. /s
I hate to be in the freezing cold to prove that I was right all along.
They should be the ones to suffer.
First guy I heard speculate on the cause was a friend on a break at work a long time ago. He said “I think the ballpark power outages and the ones starting to happen in a lot of cities is partly from cell phones.” “What? They only have little batteries smaller than a flashlight to recharge.” “But all those towers have to be powered and the whole country needs to recharge everything electric.”
We have plenty of natural gas. There’s got to be a policy reason why it isn’t available.
Extracting and selling it equals profit.
Any shortage is due to government.
A few short Trump years later and now the Dims (through Brandon) are all about stopping natural gas to save us from their fantasy warmageddon. That's probably why there hasn't been increased nat gas pipeline capacity.
During the last Kalifornia power ‘crisis’ Newsom actually asked EV owners to not charge their wonderful cars. The government giveth and the government taketh away.
People who put solar energy contraptions on their roof were enticed by the claim they could sell energy back to the grid. A little later they reduced significantly the amount the government would pay for this energy. The ‘reason’ for the reduction was only the wealthy and better off could afford all this crap in the first place.
Wait a minute. The weather channel is projecting a warmer than normal winter for all sections of the U.S. except for the southeast.
The influence of Gyorgy Schwartz and his puppet demonrats.
MSN = Micro Soft News
Nothing to see here but more scare tactics from Microsoft and company.
Location, location, location, Muhuhahahah...
Aren’t Democrats great?
“Wait a minute. The weather channel is projecting a warmer than normal winter for all sections of the U.S. except for the southeast.”
It’s Science. (I think that about covers it.)
Still time to prep ping
There was never a problem with electricity in the cold until just the last few years when Liberals screwed everything up.
I used to be part of a crew that installed cell towers and on-building cell antennas. Granted, that was in 2000, so technology may have changed. But, the computers needed to run each installation were the size of the average pickup truck bed, and drew so much power they needed special heavy-duty cables to handle the load.
And that was for non-smart flip-phones.
Pretty sure your friend is right. Those installations would probably draw enough power to make a dent in the electrical supply.
