We used to keep mentally ill people, who were a threat to themselves and others, locked up for their own good and the good of society.
Donald Trump supports mental institutions as a way to reduce homelessness and incidences like this one.
By the way, using a taser is considered lethal force. It is reasonable for police officers to use lethal force when someone is trying to tase them.
Mentally ill people need treatment to avoid tragedies like this.

Walking on the interstate and most freeways is illegal just about everywhere. It got me three nights in jail in Arkansas. five decades ago. No charges. The cop thought I was worth something but I just ate their food and slept on their cot which was a welcome hiatus after 5 days hitchhiking and almost no sleep and little food.`

That video was heavily clipped and edited as to favor the attacker.
It’s been verified that both the cop and his attacker were on the ground fighting for the gun. Yet we don’t see that part.
The cop was able to get off the ground first. Thankfully he was smart enough not to wait till the attacker got up and resumed the fight.
In simple terms, don’t believe that video.
My hubby hitchhiked through the southwest in late 1960’s. Spent a night or two in some small town jail in Utah. Froze his feet hitchhiking through Flagstaff AZ. I think he would find agreement eith you.
I give CHP my trust. Have watched these officers in action since the 1960’s and they are truly awesome.
