Last month she was billed for back taxes due to an "unlawful deduction" she took on a home in Indiana.
According to local news outlet WGN, the South Bend native filed paperwork claiming the Indiana home as her primary residence in 2007 while she was a Chicago Public Schools teacher. She also applied for a homestead tax exemption for the home, and it was granted and has been active since then.
"Davis Gates would pay four times more in Indiana property taxes if she didn’t take the homestead deduction," the IPI, which also investigated the matter, reported at the time.
In September, Davis Gates defended sending her son to a private school despite being an outspoken critic of them.

Paying your bills on time is Whiteness.
One of the perks of political position is not having to pay bills that others must pay. You’ll often see that serving politicians owe significant taxes or fines or penalties and no one ever goes after them to pay these. If no one prosecutes, then they don’t get paid. Why that’s the case here is not obvious. This position doesn’t seem to qualify like say, an alderman or mayor.

How long does it take to accumulate $5,579 in trash water and sewage bills? Even in Chicago that did not happen over short period of time. You know, this crap has been going on for a long time and the odds are based on what I’ve seen in the past on stuff like this, she will at the last minute pay 50% of the bill and be forgiven the rest.

Fun fact: her predecessor as CTU president, Jesse Sharkey, was a member of the Trotskyist International Socialist Organization.
I am sure all of her students can read and do math at grade level to justify that salary
