The city of Huntington Beach, California, one of the last conservative strongholds in the deep-blue state, has voted to cancel all of the separate month-long celebrations for various identity groups in favor of a celebration of the common history of the town.
Huntington Beach, also known as “Surf City USA,” has opposed the left-wing State of California on a variety of policies, such as beach closures during the coronavirus pandemic; mask and vaccine mandates; “sanctuary state” laws; and mandatory low-income housing.

I used to live in HB (well FV but the line was right next to my house) and the 90s were a great time to live there. Hardly any homeless. No liberalism.
Wow! Terrific! And from the once- great state of Californication, too!
sidebar: Newsome has a hard on for this city. During his draconian covid restrictions he banned the use of beaches. HB kept their beach open and their restaurants.
About 8 months ago Newsome’s coastal commission rejected the HB proposal to build a desal plant. The vote was unanimous. The next day Newsome bully pulpited us about the drought.
PS: Newsome ordered HB to build 35,000 low income housing units which would change the nature of the city. So far they said no. I think this is in court. Newome did not do the same to other same sized cities.
I want to move there!
And the Biden’s Department of Injustice will soon be descending on them.
That’s completely inclusive, what’s wrong with them?
The whole country should revert back to only holidays that existed in 1955.
A smallish, gritty, muscular linebacker from there, all-CIF, played L.Beach St., came to coach in our little town in E. AZ and went on to become the most successful HS coach the state has ever seen. Christian man — builder of character. I coached baseball at the same school alongside him.
He, unfortunately, died young (60-ish), of lung cancer, even though he never smoked. Great man. He used to take the team pre-season to HB. They let him put the boys to bed in a gym there, after they’d run in the sand and surf all day to get ready for another run at the state championship (he won 13).
That along with allowing-encouraging tent cities on the sidewalks of other middle-class neighborhoods in California is a page out of 1965's Dr. Zhivago.
Imagine the outrage if it was proposed by parents that film ought to be shown to every incoming high school student on day one of the "World History" class.
Merry Christmas, All.
EVERY town should do the same thing. Quit making governments part of any political causes.
Which clearly appears to be exactly what the Biden admin intends at the national level with its open-border policy and air flights to the interior.
Neither of them care that it is being done right in our faces. Does anyone believe they will go away quietly?
It seems imperative that R political leaders, whether or not they are in the majority or minority, stand up at the state level and speak to the nation with one voice.
Merry Christmas, All!!
We caught Halibut, Sculpin, and some sort of bass...
This was in the 60's
That’s happening in one of my son’s and daughter in law’s little town, but it’s not the State, it’s the liberals on the city council. His sister lives in a little village outside of Chicago, where village laws prevent the dividing up of properties into smaller sections, to keep it from being overcrowded. I’m not sure there are even any apartments there; just single dwelling homes.
But loved surfing in Newport. 56th St..was my go to spot.
Surfed the Wedge a few times...when it was surfable. And surfed Trestles,,,uppers and lowers...tons. Loved that place..Surfed it one time..and prolly only 3 people were out..and the waves were awesome.....
Surfed Black's Beach many times.....
Surfed south all the way to Baja..many times. Past Rosarito...a bit...
A Christmas present to America from Huntington Beach! Thank you...
Lots of months of absolutely nothing have been cancelled
Our little town was incorporated in the early 1950s. It had been platted around 1910 and took 40 years to incorporate. The laws in the 1950s preserved large lots (minimum one-quarter acre) and a two story height limit in the downtown district. The developers have steadily gnawed away at the downtown rules and the old one-story buildings have given way to 3 and 4 story buildings that are right up to the sidewalks, so it’s now like walking around Manhattan.
Then the STATE passed a law saying that all quarter-acre lots could be split in two AND each of the new houses could have an ADU (”granny unit”) in the back. So you go from one family per quarter acre to FOUR families per quarter acre and all of them parking on the street.
The STATE simply says “you can not have a nice community or neighborhood — you must have EQUITY.” Damn communists.
At least with the liberals on the town council they can fight back. It is hopeless fighting Sacramento.
On a surfboard or a foam bodyboard?
I used to watch a lot there....but looked too brutal most of the time.
