John Dean: ‘Trump’s in trouble’ after Maine ruling
The Hill ^ | 12/29/2023 | NICK ROBERTSON

Nixon White House attorney John Dean said Thursday he believes the Maine decision to remove former President Trump from the ballot will be difficult to overturn, calling it “very solid.”

Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (D) determined late Thursday that Trump should be kept off the state’s primary ballot because his conduct surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots violated the 14th Amendment.

Dean denounced criticism by the Trump campaign, which called the decision “election interference.”

“There was ample due process in this proceeding, and they just lost by a straight, honest reading of the 14th Amendment,” Dean said in a CNN interview. “Trump’s in trouble.”

"Why isn’t Joe being removed from any state ballot?

It's too soon to jump into the sewer with Ds. They'll be plenty of time for that IF SCOTUS misfires. Ds are fully aware that turnabout will be fairplay, and far more damaging in states where it could have a much more devastating impact than Colorado or probably Maine.

SecState Bellow's (surely Soros backed precisely for reasons and actions like this) unilateral decree has no prayer. They know it and probably don't want it to succeed because of reasons mentioned. She's likely looking for pub and/or a governorship.

Maine, btw, proportions EC votes. Biden got 3, Trump 1. Imagine if Trump wins 3 swing states (AZ, Wisc, and Georgia) and ends in a 269-269 EC tie because of this one lost Maine EC vote because he was prohibited from the ballot.

SC can not stay out on this one.

Just like a game of playing with dominoes. You set them up, and then tip them over.

straight, honest reading of the 14th Amendment

Does Maine usually read it crooked and dishonest? Why would you have to say this if you were truly honest?

Nobody is speaking to the fact there was no trial or due process for determining the insurrection decision. The Maine SOS pulled it out of her panties.

No charges no guilt the left loves to hype about non existing things they don’t use any laws for guilt they make it up on the fly unless it’s a democrat.

Dirty neck Joe Biden winks media approved.

Never even tried? Trump has not even been CHARGED with insurrection!

This would be laughable, except these idiots actually think they have law and order on their side...while they don’t even have common sense on their side!!

“”How does someone rule such when the person has not only NOT been convicted of the crime, but has not even been tried?””

Truly mind boggling that everyone doesn’t see that! THAT IS the problem..How does Dean figure it any other way? He must be reading the 14th Amendment backward or upside down. Why didn’t he bother to EXPLAIN what he THOUGHT it meant? Give us the “straight, honest reading”, John.

“There was ample due process in this proceeding, and they just lost by a straight, honest reading of the 14th Amendment,” Dean said in a CNN interview. “Trump’s in trouble.”

Yep it means any poll worker can claim 14A and scratch Trump’s name off the ballots.

Somebody did something to him a long time ago...he’s probably unable to move on. Amazing how he only goes after “corrupt” Republicans. The field is ripe against Dems, but this man can’t stop chasing down repub. corruption.
Not that Repubs are all innocent, mind you.

I guess it’s a living.

No. Maine is in trouble. She just disenfranchised the entire Republican Party.

Who would be surprised if something like that goes kinetic?

“Every time Dean has something anti-Trump to say, the media dutifully crowds around him with their recording devices.”

The current “news” story is the campaign to remove Trump from the ballot using the 14th amendment insurrection provision. There is a full blown, carefully orchestrated public relations and media management effort supporting it, just as there is behind every major news story. John Dean is one of the participating paid actors in this completely planned and orchestrated news story. Dean reads from his prepared script and then the media mouthpieces read from their scripts to amplify the story. These scripted events have happened so many times they are obvious to anyone with the ability to reason.

Contrary to Dean’s statement this campaign will fail at the Supreme Court. Had Trump been convicted by the Senate of insurrection in the second impeachment trial there would be a case for using the insurrection clause of the 14th amendment. If Jack Smith can get a conviction in a federal court for insurrection, there might be an argument the Supreme Court would consider for invoking the 14th Amendment.

However, in the current Colorado and Maine cases the Supreme Court would be destroying the rule of law if they in essence allowed bureaucrats and politicians to punish Trump, by removing him from the ballot, without having been convicted of the crime. The precedent would essentially open the floodgates for the administrative state to deny citizens the right to participate in the political process without due process of law. Should the Supreme Court approve this behavior, any two bit town magistrate, or board of elections supervisor, will be able to control who appears on the ballot in that official’s jurisdiction.

What we are actually seeing is nothing more than a carefully contrived effort to tie Trump up in court and destroy him in the hearts and minds of the American people through a relentless legal, administrative, public relations and media barrage. Either the American people will see through the charade, and preserve their freedom by voting for Trump in 2024 or the effort will be successful in making them tired of Trump and they will vote Democrat or stay at home on Election Day.

The walls are closing in on Trump. It’s a bombshell, the tipping point, the beginning of the end, Trump’s going down.

The deep state is scared of Trump.

I think more like annoyed by him because he defies them, and he forces them to focus on stopping him instead of their relentless march to communism. They hate being defied, they hate being forced to focus on anything but their own evil plans. They aren't afraid he'll stop them, just delay them.

Let's hope they miscalculated on that one!
