Midwest, Great Lakes among 2024’s hottest housing markets: Zillow

The Midwest and the Great Lakes regions will have some of the hottest housing markets in the U.S. this year, according to Zillow.

The real estate marketplace predicted Buffalo, N.Y., to be the “nation’s hottest housing market in 2024,” with Cincinnati; Columbus, Ohio; Indianapolis; and Providence, R.I., rounding out the top five.

“These should stand out as strong in a housing market still buffeted by low inventory and relatively high mortgage rates and prices,” Zillow added in its report released last week.

Other cities included in Zillow’s top 10 projected hottest housing markets for 2024 include Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Cleveland, Orlando, Fla.; and Tampa, Fla.

“What is there for people to move?”

Clouds, snow, rain, gloom, gray skies. In Ohio, child mutilation. Jobs? Nope.

Are realtors including an F150 with a plow on the front end as part of the closing?

Good. People finally figured out that Idaho is just too dangerous for ordinary people. Hungry bears, mountain lions, rampaging moose, deadly rivers, evil anti-democracy MAGA types...just stay away.

Last year, I took a trip down south and stayed in Natchez, Mississippi. As a pro real estate investor, I was amazed at the buys in that beautiful, historic little town on the banks of the Mississippi River! Of course, there’s little choice for income or work there, but it is an excellent place to pick up a property for passive income.

It’s the national version of ‘white flight’; red flight

The unfortunate part is that the people in blue states trying to flee from rising taxes and rising crime are still going to bring their blue proclivities for high taxes and liberal policies.

You can keep them. We are all good with our clouds, snow and gloom. We don’t need to share

If anyone knows anyone who moved to Buffalo please raise your hand.

:-)

(I did some work with folks in my former employer’s Buffalo office. They were pleasant good folks—but every single one of them were born in the area. Nobody moved there from anywhere else.)

I grew up in the nicest suburb south of Buffalo. Orchard Park, NY (home of the Buffalo Bills).

The Bills and Sabres are the only thing they have. Other than the proximity to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada ad chicken wings served with BLUE CHEESE.

EVERY one in my immediate family moved away after graduating from SUNY colleges.

Almost every kid in my neighborhood moved away except for two.

My oldest brother lives in the suburbs of Charlotte. There is a bar down there that shows the Bills games during football season. The place is packed whenever they are on TV because there are so many WNY transplants in the area.

I guess it is more that people are looking for any plausible escape from New York and Chicago.

And of course, not one Michigan city on the list.

That’s because housing prices are relatively low compared to other places because taxes are so high, the government is so oppressive, and the weather sucks.

I knew someone who did many years ago but that was the Lord’s leading in their lives.

They got out when that chapter of their lives closed.

Interesting thing I noticed: Mortgage applications are going up again after being dead for quite a while. Need to check w one of my money guys about whether that’s driven by refinancing. I wonder if people are going into ARMs, which are finally a decent play.
