Congress is racing to greenlight a short-term spending bill and avoid a government shutdown ahead of a winter storm that is set to hit Washington and parts of the Northeast and Midwest.
Government funding is set to expire at midnight on the end of Friday, but the looming weather is pushing lawmakers to wrap up work sooner than that. The Senate and House are expected to OK another continuing resolution (CR) that would keep the government open on another two-deadline track through March 1 and March 8.
The Senate locked in a time agreement on Wednesday night to set up a series of votes starting around lunchtime Thursday. Final passage of the six-week CR is expected to take place Thursday afternoon after a series of amendment votes.

Why?
I hope they all get caught in the Metro for a couple of days doing without. They rightly deserve some of the adversity they’ve been scaring America with for a long time.
It’s their one job. They already are late by 3 months. I wish they had a provision that said no one in congress gets paid unless the budget is signed by the president every October 1st.
What a bunch of pansies.
shut it down.... all of it. Congress has not done their job in over 20 years.... that is to pass a budget... not a continuing resolution.... so shut the government down. and withhold congresses paychecks.... it wont happen so fear and loathing... fear and loathing.... etc.
Valley forge to this. What a slide.
Let ‘em rot at the airport. Maybe they can bed down with a bunch of illegal aliens also waiting at the airport for their free flights into permanent residence.
Using the excuse of a winter storm to shove it up the a$$ of American citizens once again. How creative.
And its only a minor winter system with one or two inches of snow at best. Nothing unusual for that region of the country. Excuses for throwing more money to Ukraine and beyond.
There is no plan to stop out of control spending I don’t give a rip about what they do.
I agree 101%
Two inches of snow in DC the city shuts down.
(Any excuse not to work.)
Get ready for another “emergency” cramdown.
Another 10,000 pages should do. Pass it to see what’s in it...

How about no one, including the president, gets paid unless the budget is passed and signed off on every October 1st. They would pass and sign that bill so fast our heads would spin. Nice dream, though.
Swamp filth.
$34T and by the end of FY2024, $36T. Why are they fighting over it. There is no fix.
Congress has more and better excuses for expanding spending than kids have for disappearing homework.
The dog ate it.
No the cat.
No it was the blizzard outside.
Lol.
Agreed—this is like a pilot and co-pilot fighting over the controls as their spacecraft circles a black hole....lots of drama that means absolutely nothing.
