According to a 2019 Rand report titled “Overextending and Unbalancing Russia”, the US goal is to undermine Russia just as it did the Soviet Union in the Cold War. Rather than “trying to stay ahead” or trying to improve the US domestically or in international relations, the emphasis is on efforts and actions to undermine the designated adversary Russia. Rand is a quasi-US governmental think tank that receives three-quarters of its funding from the US military.
Ukraine is important to Russia. The two countries share much common heritage and a long common border. One of the most important leaders of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev, was Ukrainian. During WW2, Ukraine was one of Hitler’s invasion routes and there was a small but active number of Ukrainian collaborators with Nazi Germany. The distance from the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, to Moscow is less than 500 miles.
For these same reasons of geography and history, Ukraine is a major component of a US/NATO effort to undermine Russia. Current Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, said that over 20 years the US invested $5 billion in the project to turn Ukraine. The culmination was a violent coup in February 2014. Since 2015, the US has been training ultra nationalist and Neo-Nazi militias. This has been documented in articles such as “U.S. House admits Nazi role in Ukraine” (Robert Parry, 2015), “The US is arming and assisting neo-nazis in Ukraine while the House debates prohibition.”(Max Blumenthal, 2018), “Neo Nazis and the far right are on the march in Ukraine” (Lev Golinken in 2019) and “The CIA may be breeding Nazi terror in Ukraine” (Branko Marcetic Jan. 2022).

Isn't it interesting how the "narrative" is twisted to conform to the theme of the moment?
While I prefer commenting / responding to others using one or more hotlinks to allow verification of a source, this picture says a great deal about the "narrative" and "fundamental transformation" and "flexibility."
If one recalls the Obama administration and its color revolutions was one of fundamental transformations of governments not our own. So much for "democracy" from Democrats.
So, what you are saying is that ALL AROUND THE WORLD, it always boils down to MONEY and POWER.
>> NATO:
None of those involved NATO forces invading a country. There was no invasion, no conflict.
As always, every country that has joined NATO has asked to join NATO.
Finland joining NATO was not an act of aggression against Finland in any sense of the word.
That Russia perceived it as an act of aggression against Russia is irrelevant, and says more about Russian paranoia than it does about NATO. And is exactly why Finland, Hungary, et al., felt it necessary to seek NATO membership.
Still repeating this lie. All these territories have Ukrainian majorities, Zaporizhzhia an Kherson by a substantial amount.
Why use troops when they can bomb the crap out of them?
NATO bombings include:
Add Ukraine to this list.
cite your source and explain why the people in each territory voted in excess of 90% to leave Ukraine.
Shades of April Glaspie and Saddam Hussein.
Lol.
“Where do you morons come from? It would have never happened under Trump. Russia is not a threat to us, they are only a threat to corruption in the US and nato.”
Chugging down them Bud Lites again Jo?
Daily hacking attacks against our power grid and other critical infrastructure and they’re not a threat?
Daily hacking and ransomware attacks against our healthcare, financial and manufacturing systems and they’re not a threat?
Developing first strike nuclear weapons in violation of the START treaties and they’re not a threat?
Development of intermediate range nuclear weapons in violation of the INF treaty and they’re not a threat?
Their alliance with Iran and they’re not a threat?
You seriously need some help dealing with that alcohol induced psychosis.
“You seriously need some help dealing with that alcohol induced psychosis.”
I’m thinking it’s not a psychosis, but a plan, paid for by the Russians. There are several others here on FR that are suspicious in their support of the expansionist Russian program.
They claim that freedom is a threat to Russia, when Russia smashes its neighbors. I think that they are afraid of Russia shrinking to its natural ethnic borders, instead of the imperial borders.
Russia isn’t part of the West. There were periods in their history where Russia reached out to the West. Peter the Great. Then Boris Yeltsin. But for most part of their history, they want nothing to do with the West.
The 2001 Ukrainian census. Do you dispute these numbers? If so, what is your source? I am sorry if the facts do not match the Kremlin propaganda.
explain why the people in each territory voted in excess of 90% to leave Ukraine.
Are you really going to try to defend the legitimacy of those so-called referenda? There was no public debate, no rallies of the two sides of the question. They were conducted under military occupation and the counting was done by Russian personnel without any opposition observers. Additionally, the Russians did not hold the entirety of any of the oblasts. In particular, they did not even hold the major city of Zaporizhzhia. The claimed results are also risible and only to be seen in the Soviet Union and North Korea.
Please provide concrete evidence to the contrary.
I just did.
Sorry, that’s insufficient
“they want nothing to do with the West.”
Yeah, except when it comes to cars, planes, electronics, movies, music, fashion, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.
