Re: 2 - I had skimmed that article before and will read in more detail.

I want to know where the school board was in that ordeal. That teacher was pretty clearly (to me) grooming that child. Signs would be she was not using the support systems in place until the parents became aware of what was occurring. Prior to that, she sounds like she was working outside the student support systems.

Add to that school employees willfully creating inaccurate data about the student’s record (that is a FERPA violation), and as I said, the school board should have been involved.

We learned that many of the high school kids are all working long hours at low-paying jobs to get gas and phone money and their grades are suffering as a result.

How much gas do these kids need..? If they make minimum wage and work five hours a week, they'll have $2000. Subtract a grand for the fanciest new phone each year, and they still have around 5000 miles paid for!

Montana is nowhere as conservative as Idaho and Wyoming. It is one of the whitest states, with Caucasians representing 89% of the population.

School boards, city council, county supervisor, etc.
We can have real impact on the local level.
Who is President is important, but most of us have zero impact on who’s elected .
Focus on local, support the good ones.

Two major red flags from just skimming this story:
#1: Step-mother. Kids from broken homes are prime targets for this stuff...

In this case, you might have read further before jumping to that conclusion. It appears that the abusive birth mother abandoned the child to the child's father and moved to Canada. Her other children have lodged complaints against her abusive behavior. One of them is emancipated.

Most people are quick to blame the stepmother in these situations, often with good reason; but at least if the account of this case is accurate, both the stepmother and father appear to be well bonded to one another and to the girl's well-being.

Even in the best of divorce and blended family circumstances, parental separation can still bring about serious emotional health crises in children. This child seems to be suffering from it; and the state is not helping. At. All.
