The Curious Case of Nikki Haley
Real Clear Politics ^ | 2/24/24 | Frank Meale

Do you remember the Brad Pitt movie, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”? The title character suffered from a unique condition in which he was born an old man and then kept getting younger and younger until he died as a newborn baby.

Today, we are witnessing the equally curious transformation of a politician from a once reliable Republican conservative to a radical Democrat who seems intent on killing her own presidential political career in the crib. I am talking, of course, about Nikki Haley.

[snip]

Now, for the last two months, since shortly before the Iowa caucuses, we have been given the picture of a Nikki Haley who is either a shameless narcissist or a purposeful saboteur who aims to destroy not just Trump but the very Republican Party that adores him. I suppose she thinks she has some higher goal than party loyalty. Well, that’s fine, but then the party should spew her out before she does any further damage.

Remember, every syllable she utters during the primary will come back to hurt the party tenfold. It’s almost as though she’s become a stalking horse for Biden, trying out various lines of attack that might be useful for the current president against Trump in the fall campaign.

[snip]

Another thing she has been lying about for months is how strong she is against Joe Biden in a general election matchup. She constantly claims that she can beat Biden in the general election, and Trump can’t. But that’s not what the polls show.

Have you considered the possibility that she is running for the VP slot on the Democrat ticket? Consider 1864: a Republican for president and a War Democrat for VP. Flip that, and you have a "ticket of national unity" for 2024.

I don’t think so. There is no way in the world dems can ditch Kamala. It is just not in their deeply-ingrained identity pollitics DNA.

She’s the Uniparty backup plan, as they put everything into jailing Trump. Or worse.

They’re all in.

Same crowd is desperate to renew 702, in case their evil backup plan succeeds, and we’ve had enough.

She is working to hurt Trump and set herself up for a third party run.

My take on Haley's campaign is presented in Post #113 on this thread from last night:

I think Trump WANTS Nikki Haley to stick around for a while.

I disagree. She is a God-send to the democrats. Gavin Newsome said it best, she is the perfect surrogate for attacking Trump.

The dems will milk that for as long as possible. They certainly have the money to use her for that indefinitely.

She is either hatefully spiteful or shameless for letting them use her like that!

That’s not going to happen now. The Democrat Party’s left won’t stand for it. Look for RFK Jr., Cornel West, Jill Stein and others to make a big noise about it. In a close election, they could make a difference.

She’s setting herself up for a good job in 2025 and another possible run in 2028. If anything happens to Trump this year would she be the nominee? I don’t think so. If she were, could she win? I don’t know. Would the Deep State dump Biden or Harris for Haley? That’s a big question.

The problem with the third party run is she could only appear on the ballot in 16 states. But I agree she is trying to hurt Trump, and by extension republicans who support him.

Nikki can just start crying and begging to her owners:

“Please. Just nine more days. You can let me stay in just nine more days.”

After Super Tuesday she will be a laughingstock and that will be that.

I can’t resist a grandmother story. As many here know I had a grandmother who live to be 106. I think she was about 96 and her eyesight was really bad—even with glasses.

She didn’t drive much—and only lived about a mile from a sizeable shopping area.

One day she is driving to the store and hits a pedestrian—no major injuries—but she hit them squarely.

The police insisted she get an eye exam.

She had the same doctor for something like forty years—and they were good friends.

She cried and moaned and begged and...he gave in...signed off on her keeping her license.

A month later she hit another pedestrian—this time a lot harder...

We’ll see.

I just don’t think she’s that useful when Trump is beating her by such huge margins. In fact, it might actually help him - by giving him someone to trounce each week and obliterate on Super Tuesday - it just makes him look good.

What it also does is send the message that the Republican Party rank & file is united behind Trump - the opposite of the message she’s trying to peddle.

That’s why I think they will pull the plug on her soon - she’s just not hurting Trump at all.

I have been reading up on the sore loser laws.

Lawyers could have a field day trying to litigate them one state at a time.

What a mess.

Her big donors have thrown away enough money at this point—they will pull the plug on the craziness after Super Tuesday.

..”the Republican Party rank & file is united behind Trump”

I voted for DT twice but won’t again after he took the “I’ll diss my challengers” route. Pointing out policy differences is fine but juvenile name-calling is disqualifying imo. Hard to believe senile Biden is POTUS but the more I hear from Trump (”Desanctimonious”/”Birdbrain”) I understand how it happened.

At least do us the favor of telling pollsters you support Biden.

We are trying to prop up the corpse all the way until November.

So you won’t vote based on merit because you don’t like the nicknames? And you admit that? LOL.

Just put her out to pasture already. Hopefully, she will never hold a political position again.

The fate of the country is at stake and pearl clutching halfwits are basing their vote on name calling.

And people wonder how we got into the current mess.

She may be running, but no DemoKKKrat would ever tolerate any R as a veep. Something happens to Rutabaga and they think they’d have a Nixon on their hands.
