Who’s to Blame for the Elite Extreme Left?
Independence Institute ^ | February 16, 2024 | Rob Natelson

Posted on 02/25/2024 7:36:57 PM PST by JeepersFreepers

When conducting general surveys, Mr. Rasmussen noticed that most people expressing extreme leftist views share three characteristics: (1) They are very urban, (2) they hold postgraduate university degrees, and (3) they are relatively wealthy. People meeting all these criteria make up about one percent of the general population.

Anyway, Mr. Rasmussen decided to poll a national sample of these people: urbanites with post-grad degrees who had income of more than $150,000 per year.

He found that their economic situations and political views are remote from those of most Americans. While most Americans have been suffering hardship during the Biden years, the one percent has been prospering. While most Americans are concerned about inflation, illegal immigration, and border security, the one percent couldn’t care less.

Mr. Rasmussen also uncovered just how unsympathetic to American ideals this group is and how authoritarian it is:

Nearly half of the elite group say Americans have too much freedom. Over seventy percent trust government to do the right thing most of the time. (What planet are they living on?) Over three quarters want to restrict your right to eat meat and use electricity. Nearly three-quarters want to abolish your right to have a gasoline-powered car. Nearly 70% would deprive you of your right to choose a gas stove. More than two-thirds favor letting teachers (who usually are government employees) dictate to parents what children should be taught. Decisive majorities would take away our SUVs, air conditioning, and any air travel they deem “non-essential.” Nearly a third of these people are focused on politics—and the views of that third are even more alarming. For example, 69 percent of them said they would rather cheat on an election than lose one! (The comparable figure among all citizens is only 7 percent.)

These extreme leftists, although less than one percent of the population, have inordinate power and influence.

It is indeed alarming that sixty-nine percent of them said that "they would rather cheat on an election than lose one."

“urbanites with post-grad degrees who had income of more than $150,000 per year.”

I wonder if they ignored the latter two criteria, and just polled “urbanites”, if the results would be much different.

why does it seem that those with pointy head non-STEM degrees always sticking their noses in everybody else’s business?

I bet they have striped their shorts at least once in their life. I have no love, honor, or respect for pointy headed busybodies.

We've sensed this for years... but it's even worse than we thought...

Probably.

The 1/10th of 1% are mostly not urbanites.

They live in Aspen, Maui, Palo Alto etc....Manhattan may be the only urban zip code in the wealthiest 25 that is urban.

leaving most of the wealthiest people that ever lived out of the poll.

Good question. I taught chemistry and then physics for decades in an urban public school district.

My STEM supervisors: “You’re doing nice work! What do you need? What can I do to help?”

My non-STEM supervisors: “I’ve observed you teaching for ten minutes. I never took a single physics class. Nevertheless, let me tell you everything that you did wrong.”
———-

I think it’s insecurity on the part of the non-STEM folks. They’re behind the curve, and they know it. So they try arrogance and bullying to even things up.

And as a side note, near the end of my career most of my supervisors were non-STEM folks. That’s when I started thinking about an early retirement.

He who pays the piper, calls the tune.
The Elite use their position to prove how virtuous they are. They know what’s good for you

I meant probably not.

I would expect mostly the same responses from any urbanite.

The differentiation may seem great but the $150,000 and college qualifier are really not delineating as they’re all soldiers because they excluded the generals.

Cloward-Piven Strategy from 1966 is a major reason. For the uninitiated, that would be described as “...the strategy of forcing political change leading to societal collapse through orchestrated crises...” . Sadly it appears to me that is exactly what we are witnessing, rather blatantly 60 years later, in the USA at this present time.

my STEM began with electronics set school, then radar set school, then sent to the 35th TFWg, 35th Avionics Maint Sqdrn, George AFB, Victorville, Ca. Yhen my career went from General Dynamics Pomona Branch -Stinger missile components, AIM-7f/Standard Missile III components, PHALAMX CIWS microwave components, to NAVPRO/DPRO Grumman Aerospace, Bethpage, NY, acceptance of various naval aircraft, space shuttle, and ISS assemblies.

In all of this, I attempted and was one class short of my 4 yyear degree, when Dowling College had the bright idea to raise .their tuition +$400, and change it to a 5 year degree. I ccould not afford that, and living in NY in the ‘80s on 22k gross left no wriggle room, and i was beyond the VA window, so I stopped.
