Larry Hogan says Trump ordering GOP to block bipartisan border bill made him ‘angry enough’ to run for Senate

Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan revealed Monday that he was convinced to launch his Senate campaign after witnessing former President Donald Trump’s overt influence on the debate surrounding a bipartisan border bill last month.

“It’s why I decided to run for Senate,” the Republican Maryland Senate candidate said during an appearance on MSNBC.

Hogan, 67, announced his bid for the Senate seat currently occupied by retiring Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) on Feb. 9. The former governor had previously dismissed having any interest in serving in the upper chamber, citing the quarrelsome nature of life in the Senate.

He is a middle of the road politician who has spent the past two years plotting his next candidacy (-ies).

Maryland is almost pure D, except for the far West near WV and the Easter Shore. Both areas are sparsely populated and rural.

The DC to Baltimore corridor is where the population center is in Maryland. I lived in this corridor for 10 years. In the 1990s, we escaped to NC and never looked back.

I’m right there with you, I can’t stand Twinkie, but 40-60, or 30-70, is better than 0-100 percent.

Hogan and Sununu think that they’re God’s gift to Republicans because they are no Trumpers who won. I think the reality is that they won before becoming known as no Trumpers. Hogan is not really popular with the MAGA wing. Let’s see him win without them.

Hey, it worked for a local politician (Howard County MD Executive Calvin Ball) in 2018. He rarely mentioned his opponent when running but railed against Trump and MAGA and every campaign event and in every media ad.

Marylanders supported Hogan the first year or so as governor. The only republicans who would vote for him are the type that watch corporate news and dislike Trump .
His stance towards Trump and handling of Covid drew a solid line in the sand. He refuses to leave his political bubble. I’d like to see him do an interview outside the msm and watch him get a wake up call.

Been in HoCo for decades. The only Republicans who like Hogan are uninformed and/or Trump haters. Trump has a lot of more support in central Maryland compared to previously. I was really surprised to see the mid-20’s crowd go from not liking Trump to full support of him.

Angry that we wanted to block a bill that codified the illegal immigration scam the Bidens are running? Ridiculous. Go FY.

Running against Trump in Maryland is good politics.

Only way to get elected.
