The GOP will have a one seat majority in the House in 4 weeks. There is no way this is not a coordinated plan which will eventually result in the Democrats having the majority before the November elections. They will then refuse to confirm Trump as President should he be re-elected.

There is no way there is not blackmail, bribery, or extortion involved in Gallagher's decision.

I said this would happen back in February 2023:

I'm not defending the guy, but let's not forget that the Democrats are seeing Republicans with a 4-seat majority and one member still out recovering from injuries sustained after falling off of his roof.

If they can take out Santos, that leaves them with a two-vote swing, and we have plenty of swing voters on our side who may be tempted to buck the party from time to time.

Besides, if they can take out Santos, they will likely ramp up their machine to target others until they can retake the majority.

It's just how the Democrats roll, and we will have to suck it up and tolerate our own bad seeds when things are this close and Democrats are ruthless at playing small ball.

Good thing, then, that Congress "confirming" or "certifying" an Electoral College result is not part of the Constitution.

And it's not the current House that is present when the votes are COUNTED, it's the new House, the one elected in November, and if you don't think the Democrats will be up 35 on January 3, 2025 I suggest that you get out more.

The calendar does not work the way you think it does.

The election of 2024 will choose a House of Representatives which will be seated on January 3, 2025.

Congress counts the electoral votes on January 6, 2025.

Lose it now, or lose it in November, not much difference. I suspect the country has noticed what Republicans have done with control of the House... investigate Hunter Biden.

Thus, showing why they are known as do nothings.

Another RINO leaves the house, good. Hey Wisconsin, elect a real Republican this time.

"Gallagher's decision to leave on April 19 also means that there will not be a special election to fill his seat.

Under Wisconsin state law, vacancies after the second Tuesday in April are filled in the general election,

so Gallagher's replacement will be decided in November and his seat will remain empty until January."

RINOs are Democrat sleeper cells.

Moderate Republicans are enablers.

Democrats are waging an all-out war against Republicans (and America) and will do whatever it takes to win.

Unfortunately, the Republican electorate keeps reelecting moderates and RINOs.

This is about handing control to the Dems before the election, the GOP having more than proven it is incapable of governing.

I don’t think it’s any of those things.

He’s just a quitter.

What’s cowardly is that he hides behind his family in explaining his vague reason to leave early.

Yep, all these RINOs leaving congress BEFORE the elections was all planned. The GOP will lose the majority, all committees will be shut down and the new Rat majority will do everything they can to disqualify Trump from running. Mark my words.

Prior to his election to Congress, Gallagher served as a military intelligence officer for seven years, including overseas deployments in the Iraq War, and worked as committee staff on the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

It’s remarkable how much grief I’ve gotten on FR for suggesting that I consider military veterans to be unfit for public office. Here’s one more example to support my case.

And a former military intelligence officer should have even less public respect than lawyers and child molesters.

The new Congress is the one that will preside, not this one.

It is the new Congress that gets seated that presides over this, not the current one. So as far as the Presidential certification, this is irrelevant.

I have to believe that the early retirements are coordinated. We just don’t know by whom and to what end. Or whether blackmail or bribes are involved — or are the early retirees willing conspirators?

We are now one more early resignation, or takedown by other means, away from making Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker.

The House GOP has been ineffectual legislatively because we do not have a working majority. At this point you could not get the caucus to agree to turn on the lights.

The ONLY useful function at this point is control of the committees, which means the power to investigate, to force testimony, to issue subpoenas, to surface information, and to influence the news cycle. These things are important. The early retirees are about to throw that away.

Which may be the whole purpose of this exercise. The moment Jeffries picks up the gavel, every investigation of anything related to Biden, the border, drug smuggling, name your issue will come to an end. And the Garland DOJ will execute Operation Whitewash without a trace of accountability.

The final question is how much the dems can ramrod legislatively on a party line vote, given their willingness to break every rule in the book. They might even abolish the filibuster as the first step in a legislative blitz.

A new House convenes on 3 January of 2025. It will be whatever distribution of the new Congress that will vote on the presidency. The current House will have NO say.

Gallagher was the guy (or one of the guys) who killed the first Mayorkas impeachment vote. So, yeah, maybe he’s been blackmailed or paid off.
