Study: Tires on Electric Cars Wear More Quickly, Have Less Durability
Breitbart ^ | 03/27/2024 | JOHN BINDER

Tires on electric vehicles (EVs) have less durability and wear more quickly than tires on traditional gas-powered cars, a 2024 study shows. The revelation poses another problem for President Joe Biden’s quest to force Americans into EVs.

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Original Equipment Tire Customer Satisfaction Study found that EV owners reported more tire wear compared to gas-powered cars, Automotive News reports:

Findings from the study highlight EV owners having less satisfaction with the durability of their tires, expecting them to wear similar to gasoline-powered vehicle tires. However, EV tires naturally wear quicker because of greater vehicle weight and higher torque. [Emphasis added]

This gap in satisfaction creates an opportunity for tire manufacturers and automakers to ensure EV owners are properly educated, Ashley Edgar, senior director of benchmarking and alternative mobility at J.D. Power, said in a statement. [Emphasis added]

The study comes as a survey from Consumer Reports found that EVs have almost 80 percent more problems than gas-powered cars.

He is also partly responsible for the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore…he kept driving over it in trains even though there were NO tracks. /sarc

From a 1970 Dodge Challanger with a 440 magnum, a pistol grip 4 speed, and a good clutch, I can show you just how fast a set of tires really can wear down from a gas powered car. 😏

“I bet its more to do with the instant torque the EV motors provide. The torque just snaps ON immediately, it feels great, but the tires will suffer. Perhaps they will need to reformulate the rubber used in EV’s and/or make a software adjustment to the torque delivery to the wheels.”

Not going to happen because RANGE is everything. The tires are obviously optimized for maximum range as even 20 miles can be a deal breaker. For gasoline cars wanting another 20 miles in range, it’s another gallon of gasoline at 6 pounds (which, incidentally, will burn off after doing its job), for EVs that can be another 120 pounds of batteries. For EVs, it’s much easier (and cheaper) to simply ‘save’ the weight (and all its secondary effects) by sacrificing the tires.

“Take about half the batteries out and convert all the EVs to hybrids, using a small hydrocarbon-fueled power unit driving an on-board generator, much like a miniature Diesel-electric locomotive.”

Take out more like 75% of the batteries and you’ll have a good long-range plug-in hybrid. Put a diesel in there, and you can remove 85% of the batteries and still have the same range.

Oh, forgot, diesels are now essentially illegal in the US.

“When bridges start to collapse remember who is responsible!”

Oh, stop that. What makes you think that a bridge weakened by EVs would TOTALLY COLLAPSE due to a very-slow moving ship bumping into one of its supports?

(even it is a factor, LOL)

The EV.

Another fad which has now become bureaucratically inculcated.

Just because batteries weigh ten times more than gasoline?

And the curb weight of an EV is exactly the same whether it has a full charge or is completely discharged.

But a car with an internal combustion engine gets lighter the further it gets from its last visit to the gas station.

and when the shut down oil production what will they make the tires from ?

Maybe they can finally get that milk weed formula they tried in WWII to work.

My regenerative tire wears out about twice as fast as the other three.

That can be a major problem for handing.

Tires with unequal ware on opposite sides of the car can cause major differences in traction.

This can cause you to have difficulty in controlling the car in emergency maneuvers.

Can't they make tires from something other than Carbon and Petroleum? D'oh.

I'm feeling green today.

Yeah, I assume this is due to the weight of the batteries.

MY 1976 1 ton 4 speed dually Chevy truck weighs close to 7,000 pounds.

I used to get 40,000 +++ miles on COOPER TIRES before Goodyear bought them-——TOWING HORSE TRAILERS all over.

Current Coopers get me about 18,000 miles & truck weight has NOT changed.

When I moved to rural N Nevada-—higher temps-—MUCH lower HUMIDITY-—I was airing up tires like crazy.

I Finally bought METAL tire stems with heavy rubber gaskets.

LEAKING AIR STOPPED IMMEDIATELY.

5 tires on car-—7 tires on dually—5 tires on horse trailer-—ALL have metal stems.. DRYNESS was killing the rubber stems.

Only one wheel does the regenerating? I figured all 4 wheels shared that load.
