[history]
So far this year, 10 Detroit-area children were killed by guns. How can we, as a community and a state, stop this rising tide of gun violence?
Other communities that have stood at the dangerous intersection of young people and guns provide a good lesson. The similarities between school shootings in Littleton, Colo., and Erfurt, Germany, are striking -- troubled kids, access to guns and unbearable tragedy. Even more striking: the difference between the two countries' responses.

These folks should move to Louisiana where currently a serial killer is terrorizing the area having claimed at least three victims so far. The very anti-gun Miami Herald reported today that many formerly anti-gun WOMEN are lining up at area gun shops and gun ranges (subsequently, I would guess) for lessons on their newly acquired handguns! Of course for pure home defense, nothing beats that chilling sound of a 12 ga PUMP racking a round into the chamber! Hollywood has made that an unforgettable experience, especially in the final moments of a criminals life.

I think his original statement was, If Congress sends the Bill to him, he will sign it.
It sounds like a challenge so we better make sure that we vote in enough gun rights congress critters and perhaps the Bill will never reach his desk.

Methinks it would be fun for the Million Morons and DEES-THOMASES to come for my 870 or my Mossberg.

Oops. Sorry wrong person. I read that somewhere and I didn't check to see if it was correct. My apologies.
I'm trying to get the moderator to pull number 80 and this post and don't know how to do it. If the moderators are watching please pull my two posts.

September, 2004 the assault weapons ban expires? What perfect timing for the anti-constitution liberals... so close to the 2004 election... I wouldn't count on the law going away... maybe I'm cynical, but I see that becoming a big issue in the presidential election if it's that close...

Regardless of whether this could be extended to include semi-autos, it does indeed open a very large can of worms.
In addition to the numerous pump-action shotguns which are thought to be untouchable by the "sporting purposes" hunting crowd, there is also this:
The Remington 7600 centerfire rifle is one of the most popular big-game hunting rifles in North America. It's fairly accurate, it's not too expensive, it is available in most popular calibers, and... it's a pump-action.
IIRC, there is also a Browning pump-action rifle which is based on the semi-auto BAR (the hunting rifle, not the combat weapon) which is quite popular.
Everyone... cross-post this article to as many hunting websites as you can find. We might just nudge another 1 or 2 percent of gun owners into more serious activism. Can't hurt to try.
After Columbine, I saw repeated comments about most of the fatal shots coming from a shotgun, while the anti-gunners went nuts over the Hi-Point "assault weapon". This just goes to show that our foes are patient and tenacious.

I wouldn't count on the law going away... maybe I'm cynical, but I see that becoming a big issue in the presidential election if it's that close... This issue will be decided in the House elections later *this* year. If the Republicans hold their ground and don't lose any seats, it's likely that the AW Ban will sunset. The dems will try to jam something through, though. Watch for the sneaky, underhanded tricks - like that stunt Congress pulled back in '86, when they added the last-minute language to the '86 GCA which halted domestic production of Class-III firearms.

I could buy that, if more republicans in office had spines... I'm not holding my breath, though, but I WILL be holding their feet to the fire...

It comes fitted with a wooden dowel to prevent more than two shells from being inserted in order to protect "migrating birds." This is actually for hunting - some states - and my own Commonwealth of PA - limit the number of shots you may quickly fire to keep matters sporting. For home defense or other non-hunting use, the magazine limit *should* be easily removable - this allows the firearm to be legal for multiple purposes.

As I have replied earlier, I was unknowing of the reason for the dowel. I was just surprised that it was so easily removed and undoubtedly would be by those not interested in obeying the rules. Not being a hunter myself, I didn't know the reason why so I spoke out of turn.

Evidently this was done to meet the requirements of some idiotic law that congress passed.Uh, Richard, that's done as part of the hunting laws....simply to give the wildlife a fair shot, and keep it a sport instead of a slaughter.
Same reason there's a duck "season" that's legislated. You don't have a problem with poaching laws, do you? They're good for the sport and the health of the wildlife population. You don't fish with dynamite do you?
BTW, you can shoot ducks with a fully loaded 5 shell magazine if you desire, but you will be heavily fined if'n yer caught. And you ought to be if you do!!
