DONNIE JOHNSTON covers the Culpeper area for The Free Lance-Star. Write him...

Yeah, most kids stop using "Donnie" in their early teens.

You may be on to something regarding the memo idea. Consider this assertion by Donnie:
Should Hillary Clinton be elected president, it is highly doubtful that her husband would return to the White House as first gentleman.
That smells like a talking point. There is absolutely nothing to support this notion except that hrc may realize what a hindrance her "spouse" would be, so realized the need to float this idea. I don't believe for one minute they won't remain married. Why even Donnie, clearly an avid supporter, follows up with:
That possibility, however, may be the senator's biggest obstacle in any bid for the presidency.

At worst, she would be the best-looking president this nation ever had. This person's obvious bad taste aside, I thought enlightened liberals weren't supposed to be concerned about a woman's looks?
To: livesbygrace
Why, she may have even tucked the old ones away in anticipation of a presidential run, a fact that could save taxpayers decorating money next January. NEXT January? This speaks volumes about the intellect of the author of this piece. Unfortunately, there are MILLIONS of college age women who would vote for her just to put a woman in the White House. You will see a mass exodus of people from this country if she is elected, starting with me.

I thought enlightened liberals weren't supposed to be concerned about a woman's looks? The lie was put to that notion when the clinton women (for want of a better phrase) were the topic of discussion. Especially the vicious attacks on Linda Tripp. But all of the women were attacked about their looks to one degree or another.

White House window measurements and could have curtains ordered the day after she is elected. Why, she may have even tucked the old ones away...In her pantsuit!

Better than Martin Van Buren???
Martin Van Buren

No contest. Although, she would be our first Black female President.

Yes, and all of a sudden you couldn't believe a woman about rape or harrassment allegations either. They were all either members of a VRWC or gold-digging trailer trash. Such principled people, these leftists are!

THIS GUY IS AN ASSHOLE

Republicans have traditionally been viewed as "the haves" and Democrats as "the have-nots," and the latter group has been steadily increasing in number since the Bush administration took power. I guess this moron missed the last election.

It's interesting that Team Clinton has decided to start the "buzz" this early.
Too soon to know what it means. I'm one of those who thinks she wants to go in 2004, but would prefer a "draft" to running in the primaries.
All of these planted stories about how much in demand she is, though, would tend to make me think she is running straight-up.
Only if Bush is high in the polls will she allow a stooge to run (like Edwards), and if he is looking good in October he'll get Fostered and replaced.
I think that if AQ can pull off another attack here, Bush is in big trouble. It makes no sense, of course, because any RAT would already have had Osama to tea at the White House-but Bush has failed to secure the borders and the interior, and if this costs us lives he can expect to pay the price.
He must feel lucky.

Oh Wiz, your wording is so eloquent! :-)

Still, the Democrats will need a strong candidate to unseat Bush, and I don't see a man in the ranks who is up to the task. Well, he DID hit the nail on the head with this.

People who think like this believe that Osama bin Laden acts out of humanitarian impulses, sort of like an Islamic Albert Schweitzer. Their world view (or as Al Gore would say, Weltanschauung) is not materially affected by reality. This dude has one messed up Zeitgeist.
