The Trees
Rush
Posted on 05/20/2003 9:11:04 AM PDT by new spartacus
There is unrest in the forest, There is trouble with the trees, For the maples want more sunlight And the oaks ignore their pleas.
The trouble with the maples, (And they're quite convinced the're right) They say the oaks are just too lofty And they grab up all the light. But the oaks can't help their feelings If they like the way they're made. And they wonder why the maples Can't be happy in their shade.
So the maples formed a union And demanded equal rights. "These oaks are just too greedy; We will make them give us light." Now there's no more oak oppression, For they passed a noble law, And the trees are all kept equal By hatchet, axe, and saw.

You
are aware of what this song means, aren't you?
I didn't think so.
To: new spartacus; So Cal Rocket
I always heard this song as saying that trying to force equality was ridiculous . . .did I get it wrong?

If you are saying that this is an idictment of liberal thought you are right. Cutting down succesful (liberal def.- lucky) "trees" so the leech "trees" can survive is exactly what they think is noble. This also applies to Title IX. Cut the mens programs to make it "Equal".
I have this "immigrant" (legal) Chinese elm tree on my property that works its butt off and has thrived next to a volunteer maple.

I'm surprised he didn't quote Rage Against The Machine.
It's far more fitting for socialists.

Lol!!! You're such an idiot you don't even realize the actual intent of the lyrics.
Man, if you libs weren't so stupid you'd be funny sometimes.
Instead you're just sad and pathetic.
To: new spartacus
Actually, why don't the maples grow taller instead of cutting down the oaks?

Thank You! I get friggin tired of people COMPLETELY midding the point of the song. They hear the first stanza, and make up their minds prematurely about the rest.
How's things out in the Foundation these days? Hear any more from the Terminus folks? ;-)

A favorite of mine when I was an adolescent liberal:
When all the laughter dies in sorrow
And the tears have risen to a flood
When all the wars have found a cause
In human wisdom and in blood
Do you think they'll cry in sadness
Do you think the eye will blink
Do you think they'll curse the madness
Do you even think they'll think
When all the great galactic systems
Sigh to a frozen halt in space
Do you think there will be some remnant
Of beauty of the human race
Do you think there will be a vestige
Or a sniffle or a cosmic tear
Do you think a greater thinking thing
Will give a damn that man was here

Yes, I believe it was only 2 weeks ago when I experienced my first "ZOT".
I have learned through my beloved mentors, the Viking Kitties, the ever powerful force called "Zot" and am harnessing that force.
I am but the learner right now, soon I will become a master as my mentors! (gives low bow in humbleness and courtesy)

This is the most bigoted and hateful thing I've ever read! Why don't you just come out and say Hitler and the KKK are right! I've never been so disgusted in my EFL.

You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill;
I will choose a path that's clear
I will choose freewill.

Moron, ALL the trees were cut to stumps. That means everyone loses. You want to transfer wealth from those who've earned to those who think they deserve it just because they're breathing. That is far from noble.
Buddy, you aren't in the shade, you're in the dark.
