Well, just for you, the "Sausage King of Chicago". Zot is what happens when posts are deleted for whatever reason. Usually newbie trolls (trolls are usually DU lurkers who post and run). To Zot a post is to delete it.

You sure missed that one.

Are you interested in what the song really teaches?

Perhaps it is that there is a natural order to things. Maples do very well in their own environment.

If we carry your interpretation to its logical end, the earth will eventually be covered with moss. Anything and everything else was depriving it of the sunshine it deserved.

You have no idea about the lyrics. Like it was stated before, The Trees is a song about affirmative action and lowering everyone to the lowest common denominator - stumps. The word "noble" is definitely used in a sarcastic way.

Rush is one of the few rock bands that espouses objectivist idealogy in the tradition of Ayn Rand. The cases in point are the tunes Freewill, Something for Nothing, The Trees, 2112, Red Barchetta, Anthem, A Farewell to Kings, Tom Sawyer, etc.

I will grant that Neil Peart would not label himself conservative, but Rush is probably the closest thing to a conservative rock band that you can get.

Are there any others that you can think of? I would love to spend money on their CDs!

I always heard this song as saying that trying to force equality was ridiculous . . .did I get it wrong?

The simplest answer is always the best, and what I believe the original poster wanted to get across.

Ah, the bloody mindset of egalitarianism, fresh from the French Revolution with its great addition to the history of mankind, the guillotine.

The left has always been, will always be, and can never be anything but the politics of death, destruction, and decay.

Is "new spartacus" a kindergarten kid? I was in high school before I ever heard "The Trees," and I understood it just fine; apparently this human lightning rod wouldn't get the point if he were impaled upon it . . .

"Noble", IMHO, is meant to connote that the local hereditary ruler's decree was made into law - From a nobleman comes a "noble" law.

Trollkin, you need a much better song.

Led Zeppelin
Immigrant Song

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

Ah, ah,
We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.
How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore,
Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords.

On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.

So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing.
