The New York Post ^ | 7-4-2003 | Phil Mushnick

LIQUID Gold: According to local beer industry sources, the Mets' and Yanks' concessionaires purchase half-kegs in bulk for approximately $29 per half-keg, roughly half the cost charged to bars and restaurants. Each half-keg holds 1,984 ounces, or 124 16-ounce servings. So, if the teams sell 16-ounce servings for about $6.50, which they do, the profit over the initial purchase price of each half-keg begins when the fifth beer is sold and that profit, per half-keg, is nearly $800.

The way the Yankees have been playing against Boston this weekend, they're going to be selling a lot more beer at Yankee Stadium.

Well, at least they're not in Detroit Tiger territory yet - SportsCenter had a fan shot of some poor soul wearing a brown paper bag over his head. It was labeled: "Detroit Tigers: World's Worst Team."

What about BYOB?

I'm a New York Jets season ticket holder. Smuggling in your own alcohol is a long-standing tradition for us. My father passed down his own secrets to me, when I turned the appropriate age, of course.

When ya buy beer at the ballpark you're supporting the team! That way maybe they'll be able to sign a starting pitcher or 2 for the pennent race.

Ahhh the good old days at Texas Stadium, you may hate the Cowboys but until Jerry bought the team you could bring in a cooler full of beer as long as it would fit through the cooler size hole.

Mine are the Braves (aka "The Playoff Chokers") and I gave up on them (and MLB) at the last strike...was it 1994 or 1995???

I'm not a baseball fan, but just tickets and parking for the NY Jets for a season sets me back $700. That's all the financial support they'll get from me.

Yes. I went to some Bengals-Browns football games in the late 80's and we sat in the Cleveland dog pound....and we could sneak beer into the stadiums....it was easy since it was cold out you could just hid the beers under your coat.

The Yankees have been playing like they've been drinking They've been getting bombed!

The Yanks have been "runnin' hot 'n cold" this season worse than my ex-wife ever did.

I anticipate another mini-collapse when Bernie returns, just like when Jeter did.

So what's the difference between this and movie theater's?

You can buy a Big Glup for $0.50 but it's $5.00 if you see it with the Matrix.

Yeah, but after overhead and taxes, the profit margin is actually pennies per serving.
