Hello, Sakic.

Why do you insist on calling it Grids?

Because as a desriptive term, it is accurate.

The disease is overwhelmingly transmitted via heterosexuals in Africa so I kind of doubt that you're right.

Please read the following links. They're not from Dr. Paul Cameron, the Family Research Council, NewsMax or World Net Daily. They're from the Royal Society of Medicine, the British equivalent of the AMA:

Unsafe healthcare most common cause of African HIV

Anal sex is second most common cause of AIDS in Africa

According to Brody and Potterat, the fact that health warnings have avoided mentioning anal sex - despite its "substantially greater" risk of HIV transmission - may have contributed to the AIDS epidemic. Their research suggests that both men and women in Africa have receptive anal intercourse, often believing it to be 'safe' since it is not featured in public health education programmes ...

Rectal diseases similar to those found in American homosexual men have been reported in some studies of African men.

Receptive anal intercourse was reported by 98.7% of street boys in Tanzania, who said they weren't at risk from AIDS, because they thought you could only get it if you had sex with a woman.

The authors conclude that although unsafe medical practices probably caused most of the spread of HIV in Africa (see the March issue of International Journal of STD and AIDS), anal intercourse accounts for perhaps the majority of the remainder. Brody warns: "No one is warned about the dangers of anal intercourse, and people are dying as a result."

When folks say things like: "Why do you insist on calling it Grids?" I have to wonder if they've ever read anything on the subject. Then again, it depends on exactly what we're talking about, either anal cancer or AIDS. Either way, the stats are against homosexual behavior.

Some additional links on the subject:

BTW, thanks for the additional links, the database has been updated.

Hi Bryan.

Most impressive link you've ever sent me on this topic. The argument historically of it being homosexual rather than heterosexual never struck me as possible.

Transmission by anal sex seems much more viable as a possible explanation for a higher incidence in the homosexual community.

It will be hard to pin down exact cases by transmission category but at least this has a bit of logic behind it. I await further studies that either confirm or repudiate these findings. For now put me in the "Let's see" category.

In any case, it's nice to know that you've softened your position that AIDS is a homosexual disease. At least that's what I remember your position to be.
