I've posted this question before with no answer. Someone help me out here.
If you pay a girl $500 for the act of sex it is illegal. But... if you pay a girl $500 for the act of sex, film it and sell it, it is a legitimate business called porn. What is the difference?

Some people (Ms. Fleiss for example) try to make 'careers' like prostitution, 'exotic dancing' and the like sound glamourous. These women also claim to have made a lot of money in these fields.
And yet not one of them seems truly happy. The majority of them exist in abusive relationships and blow their money on alcohol, drugs or silly 'luxuries' like breast implants and fake nails (which are actually an effort to make themselves more physically attractive, because they feel that is all they have to offer the world).
Very sad.

Although I'm not positive, I believe the difference is in the language of the law, which has to do with gratification--performing sex acts for the purposes of gratification, etc.
At least in my state, this is what prostitution requires. I would guess, then, since my fine state of Indiana is not a porn-industry mecca, that since the "actors" and "actresses" in porn videos are not performing sex acts for the purpose of gratification, then that allows them to escape the prostitution charges.
This, though, is only a guess.

It didn't say in one year - it said the first time.

I read an article in an English journal some time ago, which asserts that, in English Common Law, prostitution itself is not a crime, but solicitating for sex is.
Solicitating for sex was made a crime for health reason (pevent the spread of VD), not on morals ground
To: dogbrain
From what Heidi used to charge Jack Nicholsen you only needed $3,000!

Of the few porn movies I've seen, it seems that each and every guy was 'gratified' so to speak. That gratification usually get special attention by the filmers too.
You are right though it's got to be some lawyer double speak to see any difference in the two.

I suspect it was something like going away on a couple of weeks' vacation with the guy. Working 24/7. Probably with a Saudi sheik, or some similar non-self-made gazillionaire, to whom $250,000 isn't a big deal.

Of the few porn movies I've seen, it seems that each and every guy was 'gratified' so to speak. Hey, that's why they are actors. Maybe the Academy should recognize "Forrest Hump" in its next awards ceremony.
In all seriousness, though, you do know that there are awards for the pornographic film industry similar to the Emmys or the Academy Awards. I can't think of what they are called off the top of my head, but maybe it'll come to me. No pun intended.

Sometimes, these johns organize months long trips--so I could see $250,000 for one job.

"What a sick world we live in." What do you call a woman who marries into an ocean view home,
a Mercedes, a daily massage, and is filing for divorce a year later?

sometimes to define "prostitution" can be a grey area
eg, a guy dates a girl , buys her a very expensive dinner, and she sleeps with him, is this considered some form of prostitution ??????
or a guy buys a lady friend some very expensive gifts, and she sleeps with him ??
