As a civil servant myself, I'm utterly disgusted. When I was mobilized for Bosnia as an Army Reservist, I wasn't questioning anyone's right to issue the order or looking for ways to sabotage the mission.

The civil service MUST be above attacking the nation's elected leadership. If you disagree, go vote, but never, NEVER, undermine from within.

We should just go ahead and elect Barracks Emporer Wastely Clark. We already have his disloyal, back-stabbing Pretorian Guard.

Mr. Novak ought to "fess up", even though his precious rights as a reporter keep him from "revealing a source" WHy should tax-payers pay for a special investigation when this fellow has NO legal obligation not to reveal his source?

I Personally believe that Novak got the info from the dems or wilson himself in order to create scandal for the white house. This is how the socialist-democrats work - it is obvious tactic which should be IGNORED by the general public as insubstantial socialist whinings.

Now that we see how anti-Bush Wilson really is. I'm beginning to wonder if he really tried that hard to investigate the Niger-Iraq uranium deal. He knew if he found a link the administration would go to war against Iraq. It's entirely possible that he took it upon himself to try to stop the war from the get go.

I also have to wonder what is going on at the CIA that Wilson's mission wasn't classified. Tennet should be replaced and a shake up at the CIA is in order. If contractors do not keep their mouths shut what's the point in having the CIA in the first place?

Why would the CIA send a person with NO experience in this kind of sensative investigation

Why is ok for Joe Wilson to print in an NYT op-ed about his finding of a secret mission that the CIA sent him on??

Is it normal proceedure for folks working for the CIA to dicuss/print Classified reports in a major Newspaper??

Here's a couple of interesting Statements.

Extraction of minerals (most notably uranium) for export is the leading industry. Mining was originally controlled by French interests, but German, U.S., and Japanese participation has increased. Manufacturing is limited to primary products — peanut oil and other processed foods, beer, cotton textiles, and cement. Niger has a large foreign debt and is heavily dependent on foreign aid, which was reduced after a 1996 coup. France's 1994 devaluation of Niger's currency, the C.F.A. franc, had the effect of greatly increasing Niger's exports to neighboring Nigeria. Source

(Terence)Jeffrey's article notes that in 1999, according to the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency, an Iraqi named Wissam al Zawahie was sent on a "trade mission" to Niger. The article's main theme is that al Zawahie was one of the chief Iraqi advocates for the development of nuclear weapons by that country. Jeffrey also recounts that he tried to get more information on Zawahie's contacts with Niger from the U.N., which interviewed him in Baghdad, but the U.N. refused to disclose any information that had not already been made public.

One of the unanswered questions that Jeffrey posed to the U.N. was: What did Zahawie say Iraq hoped to import from Niger? This caused me to wonder about Niger's export economy. Niger is one of the world's poorest countries; what, exactly, might it have to sell that Iraq would want to buy? Bearing in mind, of course, that there is no question that Iraq bought large quantities of uranium from Niger in the 1980's. So What Was Iraq Buying From Niger?
