God commands Christians to build one another up. He also commands us to oppose false teachings and warn others against them.

2 Corinthians 11:12-15
 12.  But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
 13.  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
 14.  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
 15.  Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

If you can't understand 1611 English - try THIS:

2 Corinthians 11:12-15
 12.  And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
 13.  For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
 14.  And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
 15.  It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. (niv)

Nevertheless, restornu, the reply was very thin-skinned. This is an open thread, thick skin is required. If this style of open debate disturbs you, then you should stay away from "open" threads.

I think you have answered THIS question for me - thanks...

WHERE is the REST of the LDS brigade that RESTORNU pinged so early in this thread?

I don't think that SKIN is what is being shown as thick in many of these replies...

Bumping to keep this thread going so others can see the condescending forum rule-breaking remarks by the thin-skinned.

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Resty, you cited 1 Corinthians 2 (v. 16 above). But you seemed to bump right over the "we" aspect of having "the mind of Christ."

When I've talked with Mormons over previous decades, it seems that many LDS under previous "prophets" were much more reticent to stake out clear-cut statements on some theological issues. It used to be I would receive many more caveats of deference -- "Well, I don't represent the official view of the church..." IOW, they often seemed concerned they might mis-state a theological position held by the First Presidency of the church.

In so many words, what were they conveying to me in these exchanges? It was essentially an Amos 3:7 view of things...that God speaks to the "prophet" -- that only he (or broader, the general authorities, too) has/have the mind of Christ.

So when you cite the Biblical "Scripture" that "we have the mind of Christ," please keep in mind that entirely reflects the Evangelical position -- that the "mind of Christ" isn't limited to a pope or to an LDS "prophet" but is instead given thru the Holy Spirit who resides in His people!

In contrast, LDS leaders have been well known for statements in the late 1940s along the lines that "the thinking's been done for you" along with all the condescending comments that Ezra Taft Benson put out about "following the prophet." (IOW, don't bother trying to have the mind of Christ, we've got the corner or monopoly on that, thank you, and will pass on what you need to know on a need-to-know basis).

So, what an irony for you to cite that passage!

The Lord you know is largely based on the creeds created by men.

Well, who created the Mormon creeds, "Articles of Faith?" (Men) [Latin credo just means "beliefs"]

Was it Joseph Smith alone? (No)

FAIRLDS says "a total of five articles...have been changed since Joseph Smith's original writing of them in 1842."

The most significant change was for later Mormons to add the phrase "the first principles" to the fourth Article of Faith. (See http://www.fairlds.org/Misc/How_Many_Articles_of_Faith_Were_There.html)

So, "the first principles...of the gospel" wasn't even in the original LDS "Articles of Faith"...(what will LDS men creatively alter further down the line?)

And were these LDS "Articles of Faith" created by men based upon a careful direct extraction of LDS "Scripture?" (No!)

Smith wrote what is in most of them in 1842 when he sent a letter to Joseph Wentworth of the Chicago Democrat.

So, BREAKING NEWS FOLKS! LDS get their creative man-creeds based upon a letter to a corporation run by Democrats! THAT is the source of LDS creeds -- a Q&A press release to a media outlet run by Democrats! Whoo-hoo! (Let's all bow down to the almighty sacred press release!)

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree.
She discovered that Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889.
Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor.

Harry Reid, Congressman from Utah
The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory.

On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription:
'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.'

So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle.

Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research:

'Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include  acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the  railroad.
In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honor when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed.'

NOW THAT is how it's done folks! That's real SPIN. FAIRlds would be PROUD!
