Thus, … many can joyfully take it up again and encourage others to do so.

All these outward signs, instead of the clear message of the Gospel of Grace and assurance of salvation.

Other customs too should not be forgotten, such as making the Sign of the Cross when passing a Catholic Church, praying the Angelus at noon and 6 p.m., and so forth.

Wow....is Roman Catholicism ever ate up with such non-BIBLICAL rituals.

Not a nod, Monsignor, but a bow, upon hearing the holy Name of Jesus.

LOL ... like evangelicals don’t have manmade rules, customs, and practices — by the ton!

You could easily have made this a caucus thread.

I don't make the sign of the cross whenever I pass by a church....I don't have to say a prayer at a certain time of the day, etc.

So no....evangelicals don't have the myriad set of rules, etc that Roman Catholicism does.

Why? Roman Catholicism cannot stand the examination of its practices?

I also mention other possibilities, such as "Devotional" or "Ecumenical" as appropriate. (Who would've guessed that the Religion Forum needs so much regulation?)

It was great watching everyone follow protocol at the Assisi Basilica recently when I attended mass there.

Growing up Lutheran, I was very familiar with the service when I first attended mass.

It’s called respect. Do you respect your elders?

But the sign of the Cross is in the Bible.

"Go ye, therefore, into the whole world, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

I thought about it and decided against it. Would have been better, though.

Please forgive me.

Good grief....the lengths Roman Catholics go to read into the Scriptures things that are not there.

No where does the verse you've cited say to make this the sign of the Cross.

Really? That’s the kind of thing you worry about, making the sign of the Cross?
