Satan is attacking bishops; they must fight with prayer, pope says
NATIONAL CATHOLIC REPORTER ^ | 09/11/18 | Carol Glatz,

In these times, Pope Francis said, it seems like the devil, "the great accuser, has been let loose and he's got it in for the bishops. True, there are, we are all sinners, we bishops."

The great accuser "seeks to reveal sins, which people can see, in order to scandalize the people" of God, he said in his homily during morning Mass at Domus Sanctae Marthae.

Who are the people in your picture, and what is the context?

Cardinal McCarrick and a teen.

Cardinal McCarrick resigned in July because of sexual misconduct allegations.

The devil made me do it! - PF

(Well, perhaps you should not have sought his trappings of power over others and pleasure at other’s expense. Perhaps you should not have broken your vows to God before all the members of The Church.)

Thanks. It could be innocent, but for a bishop to appear in such a picture raises red flags, to say the least.

I’m waiting for three words: Penance, Reparation, and Laicization.

“It looks as though Satan controls much of the Church now.”

No. Satan controls certain people. Not the Church.

Sacraments are not dependent on the sanctity of the priest, because obviously it is not a priest, a mere man, who can give grace, forgive sins, etc, Christ is the one who acts in every Sacrament.

If it were up to the priest, it would imply that

Of course it's best if a priest is all the he should be, a man full of Justice, Courage and Purity, of Faith, Hope, and Love. But even if he is in a state of mortal sin, it does not affect the "realness" of the sacrament, because, to put it plainly, it is not "his" sacrament. He doesn't "do" it nor "own" it.

I believe that a lot of Christendom is undergoing tribulation at this point — whether this corresponds to the tribulation period spoken of in the book of Revelation, I frankly venture no opinion. Quite often, great events are preceded by smaller events of the same kind. As a kind of warning and preparation. But anyhow, blessings have always been more powerful than curses.

Thanks for this. This is forgotten, and so important. Through the power of Christ is what the priest does possible. And thus, imperfect people administer imperfect people.

Still leaves the larger question about how much is enough, and what to do about it.

Hey that works on the Q threads.

It must be valid.

I think it looks more like a perfume bottle with an ornate stopper. But YMMV.

It isn't that old (as church history goes.) It was built in the 17th century. Maderno, Bernini, and Michelangelo were responsible for the layout.

Piazza Pio XII? Looks like a big flat tongue to me. I guess I’m not getting it. Also, if we jump every time we see a superstitious sign, the devil will soon be nagging at us more and more to do it. He is a big attention hound.

And I’m saying this as a fellow from the Baptist (more or less) side of the Christendom street. There’s been so much “damn” going around that we have scarcely room for a “bless.” “Bless” doesn’t commend or even excuse what’s already there — it seeks a transformation into something that is put to a holier purpose.

They need to fight it with the Truth, including Pope Bishop Francis.

HiTech, mine at #53

I find myself yearning for justice. The dishonest ride high; the honest suffer.

The glimmer of hope in these dark clouds, though, is that some 29 U.S. bishops --- 30 if you include Card. Burke, who is an American but not now a U.S. resident--- have called for a full investigation of the charges Archbishop Vigano made in his --- to me, electrifying ---11-page "Testimony." I hope everybody has read it by now. It's right here in .pdf from DocumentCloud.

One should never rejoice in evil, but I guess one can rejoice when evil is exposed. I particularly like the place where Abp. Vigano comes right out and says that "Wuerl lies shamelessly."

I thought, "Hallelujah, a straight-talking man."

Yup. That’s coming down the pike soon.

Francis seems to believe (like best leftists) that if you ignore the complaints, they will just drift away.

I’m praying for howling mobs to drag these monsters into the streets and strip them of their fancy raiments, myself.

Time to leave the Catholic Church and join a real Christian Church.

It is apparent that many priests and bishops are a bunch of guys who like to dress up in fancy robes, jewelry and tiaras - taking money from the poor to finance their selfish lifestyles.

To abuse the innocent children of their congregants is the greatest sin.

Jesus is weeping.
