Benedict argued that “the legalization in 16 European states of ‘homosexual marriage’” has led to a “deformation of conscience” that extends beyond the secular realm, having “penetrated deeply into the world of marriage in sectors of the Catholic people.”
As such, “the issue of marriage and the family has taken on a new dimension that certainly cannot be ignored.”
“This cannot be responded to with some petty moralism and not even with some exegetical references,” the Pope Emeritus said, adding that “[t]he problem goes deep and therefore must be addressed in fundamental terms.”
In line with historic Church teaching, Benedict affirmed that mankind, “in the mode of male and female, is ordered to procreation, as well as the fact that the community of male and female and the openness to the transmission of life determine the essence of what is called marriage.”

VATICAN CITY (LifeSiteNews) — In a newly released book, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI defended traditional Catholic teaching on marriage and the family, describing the widespread institution of homosexual “marriage” in Europe as fomenting “a cultural revolution that is opposed to the entire tradition of humanity.”
The former pontiff made the remarks as part of an introduction to the Italian book “The real Europe: Identity and Mission,” some introductory pages of which were published by Italian newspaper Il Foglio on September 16.

Francis has promoted same-sex civil unions in the past, making his strongest statement on the issue last year in the documentary film Francesco, in which he stated, “What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are legally covered. I stood up for that.”

In conclusion, the CDF stated that the Church “teaches that respect for homosexual persons cannot lead in any way to approval of homosexual behaviour or to legal recognition of homosexual unions.”

I think the answer for the Christian churches, independent of country should be, “You can write anything you desire into your constitutions and regulations, but don’t ever call it marriage. God created the single institution of heterosexual marriage as the earthy manifestation of the absolute unity and love He seeks with each person, and you have no right to corrupt its meaning”.

I was a whole lot more comfortable with the previous two popes. This one —- not.
That is why Benedict is still Pope.
Retaining marriage as a Christian institution means not being required to recognize unions of sodomites. Christians should be able to live out their spiritual faith without secular governments corrupting the meaning of marriage. Governments should proceed with the level of tolerance, which allows Christians to be in a country, but not necessarily of the country in every way. Governments can then use their penchants for elegant writings to describe whatever other unions they want between humans. Just leave stark contrast to exist.

I disagree. Any government that protects and enforces legal infanticide, euthanasia or sodomite unions, is evil. Governments should not tolerate evil.

In that same year, the Supreme Evil Court, overturned those laws in the case of Lawrence v. Texas.
In 2015, the Supreme Evil Court, ruled all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and the Insular Areas to perform and recognize the marriages of same-sex couples on the same terms and conditions as the marriages of opposite-sex couples, with all the accompanying rights and responsibilities in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges.

Leaving the stark contrast to exist means being allowed to be an agitating, contentious force against whatever is proposed. Unfortunately, too often now churches yield to pressures about them and find satisfaction in having the church’s website added to a person’s favorites on Internet Explorer, along with Oprah, Dr. Phil and PBS.
