Hunter to withdraw? Nope, he fools us
LA Times ^ | Jan. 7, 2008 | Don Frederick

Posted on 01/07/2008 12:35:47 PM PST by SelectiveJNJ

UPDATE -- Our apologies to Duncan Hunter. He used the "major announcement" we got notice about earlier -- and assumed, wrongly, meant he would be folding his presidential tent -- to decry his exclsuion from the pair of Republican candidate debates this weekend.

"Who do they think they are?" he said of media big shots. He also noted that he won a delegate from the caucuses in Wyoming on Saturday, which puts him ahead of Rudy Giuliani in that category. And he said he would remain a candidate "no matter what happens" in New Hampshire's Tuesday primary.

All signs point to a poor showing for Hunter. But he hopes that

‘Guess you are one of those fair weather conservatives.’

I’m not blind to reality, to be sure, especially political ‘reality’.

‘your bias speaks volumnes’

Tell me, what part of ‘I like the guy, he’s right on most of the issues in my opinion’ confused you?

Sheesh.

So, if there is a another debate, it should just be Romney debating himself?

Exactly who do you think I was referring to, and why do you think that? I mentioned no names.

If you have an adult question to ask, ping me. I’ll respond.

(this doesn’t meet that criteria)

Duncan Hunter Decides Not to Drop Out of Race - NPR

The reports of Duncan Hunter’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. And he snookered all the major networks as he let them know he isn’t dead yet.

You would have needed a calculator to count the members of the media who assumed that when the Hunter campaign said it would make a “major announcement” at 2 p.m. today, he was going drop out of the Republican presidential race.

Hunter, however, took the opportunity to rip ABCNews and Fox News for excluding him from their debates this past weekend. He pointed out that he had valuable insights that he could had contributed to the topics discussed. But “some knucklehead ... in a third- or fourth-story glass office” made the decision to keep him out. And he pointed out that at the time of the debate, he had actually won a delegate in Wyoming, which gave him more delegates than other McCain, Giuliani, and Thompson, and Huckabee - all of whom participated in the debate.

Then he noted that “Fox keeps asking me when I’m going to drop out ... well, I’m not going to drop out.”

You could sense cable TV news executives jaws dropping all over the U.S. Hunter had allowed them to think what they wanted to think, and got national airtime to tell them the exact opposite.

Now that was a campaign tactic to remember.

Any day that starts with the LA Times eating crow is a good one.

It's clear the media plans to pick the candidates on both sides. On the left, Richardson was allowed to attend, but not speak. Granted, he didn't try too hard, he was so afraid of interrupting the HoBombary show.

Unlike the governor from Aztlan, Duncan has much to say, and I feel he and Fred validate each other.

In the middle of him voicing his frustration with the media blocking him out, he gets blocked out!

CNN made his point for him...

I go with Rush's statement - conservativism works every time it's tried.

Contrary to your opinion, the fact that Hunter has more delegates than everyone but Romney and Huckabee, and still fights on in the face of the media bias cold shoulder raises him in my esteem more than before.

http://dhgrassrevolt.wordpress.com/2007/10/13/open-letter-from-freeper-david-osborne/

Conservatives may be a minority, but since most of the rest of the country is apathetic, we have a disproportionately large voice if we use it.

You are missing the point.

Remember Armstrong Williams ? http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/-williams-whitehouse_x.htm
He was excoriated, and rightfully so, by the media for not disclosing the conflict of interest.

Someone who is employed for their opinions must disclose their conflicts of interest if they are to be believable.

Therefore, comentators cannot care if the candidates buy airtime from the news source or not.

Got that now ?
