Are Secular Geologists Ready to Consider a Global Flood?

April 30, 2009 — Everyone knows the Bible tells the story of a global flood in Noah’s day. Creation scientists argue that its effects would have left visible evidence today – including most of the sedimentary layers and most of the fossil record. Secular geologists have laughed off this story since the 18th century as nothing but myth, of course, but a paper in the Annual Review of Earth and Planetary Sciences suggests that some of them are re-evaluating the role of “megafloods” in earth history. Some megafloods might be considered as “global planetary phenomena”...

An uncle of mine, an atheists by the way, was studying for his PhD in geology many years ago.
When while studying geological records said he believe they proved the flood. He has since become a born again Christian. Funny how that works.

God clearly states in the Bible he will NEVER again flood the earth.

Non starter.

Geology never lies, but rather our interpretation of it.

Not sure what I’m saying? Geology is simply the pages of God’s natural earth story. I’m a geologist of 30 yrs.

...and God clearly stated after the great flood of Noah’s time that he would NEVER flood the earth again.

Well stated! I can't call myself a Geologist although I have a BS degree in Geology. I got side tracked into the oil and gas exploration field.

I believe you are right about that. Please remember, not to confuse the subect of this thread, secular geologists with all geologists.

A friend of mine is getting his degree in geology. He says the proff’s flip out whenever anyone questions their dogma. I mean flip out. He is one of the smartest people I know, and he tells me the the sediment layers, and how oil is found scream flood.

no worries whatsoever. I believe God has wrath planned for us, it’s just not another flood. The wrath of Obama is punishment enough!

I happened to fall into a geology class one semister. The Prof had amazing recall at around 70 yrs old. By the second day of class, he had everyone's name memorized and pointed to them as he called them by name. And we're talking about a class of 50 or people or so.

That pretty much had my attention for the rest of the semester as I continued on to finally get my Masters in Geology. It's an amazing science especially when you realize who created it all.

“Funny how that works.”

You mean people’s eyes being opened for the first time?

John 9:39 says: “And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.”

Hopefully, your friend will one day join the growing ranks of biblical creation scientists who are willing to stand up to the fanatical and totalitarian tactics of the Temple of Darwinistic Materialism.

All the best—GGG

Personally, I like the Black Sea theory. I doubt that any serious geologist postulates globally concomitant flood deposits.

He is a strong Christian. Due to the backlash he has seen in others he is balancing it all and spitting out what his proffesors want to hear. He has all our support in the future.

I’ve read that theory which tends to make sense for the location of the flood. Still would like more data about the closing of the Mediterranean to support sea rise.
