Some of that depends on the caliber of the weapon (not listed). If it was a .45, it would have gone right through the guy into whoever was behind him. A .22 probably wouldn’t have killed him with two shots, unless they were in the right spot. A .380, not full metal jacket, better chance of putting the target down, without going through, big mess for the coroner though (but, really, who cares, he’s dead, yea!).

Actually, the .45 ACP is a low velocity round with a large cross section. Tends to expend its energy in the target. A friend in Nam killed a VC at close range, who was standing over him about to unload his AK. The shot sent the VC into a full back flip. The .22 LR rimfire will make nice neat holes, make little mess, and can be a good round with good placement (a guy shot by his girlfriend through the arm died when the bullet ricocheted around his chest, piercing his heart 4 times). Personally, I don’t like the .380 much, tho I do have a Sig Sauer .380 pocket pistol.

“The perp was just feet away from her and she had no time to think of such things, she just acted, and in the correct manner. As for hitting her Aunt, she probably needs more range time under pressure to improve her shooting skills.”
That is what training and playing “what if” games are for. You think about these things before you have to act. I have mentioned exactly those techniques in my CCW class numerous times.

He was just having a bad day; girlfriend dumped him, gets arrested, and then shot dead by a 17 year old girl.

Ha! I like that! However, I noticed that he doesn't have a record of DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, yet there is a mugshot of him: wonder what that was for.

I'm fine with NRA style firearms education, training and practice, and believe it should be offered to all children (with parents permission).
This young lady lives in Utah, and may have had some before this incident, but I do my Monday morning quarterbacking fairly carefully from known instinctive behavior.
What you say about incidents and training is accurate, you don't have time to think, and you train the proper decisions into your actions by scenario practice.
Instinct can trigger decisive action as well as training.
Had I my way, this young lady would have had enough of your classroom and hands on CCW/gun safety training to make these scenario decisions rote by age 16. Training is the better way, but I won't denigrate accomplishment.

John Sharp, went to his girlfriend's house three times Thursday. All three times, police were called. It was after the third time that he was shot and killed. Third time's a charm.
