Way back in the 500s Krakatao or another one or maybe several in different parts of the world went off in close succession to each other and the Chinese were able to record in the royal annals "A Loud Noise" ~ then they promptly fell into 300 years of Dark Age without civilization or wealth.
Sounds like a great opportunity for Gore’s carbon tax.
Here's a tidbit of urban legend {perhaps more?} on the 1883 eruption. I make no claim one way or the other.
I have climbed the volcano Mt. Gede on the island of Java
as well as many other volcanos. Mt Gede had steam coming from the crater and streams coming down the mountain were near boiling and great care had to be taken boulder hopping to cross them. From the summit I was above the clouds and could see many volcanic cones including one that was active expelling ash. This area is very active for volcanoes (which I really like to climb) and for earthquakes which I hate.
Here’s a good video on the birth of Anak.

Sounds like a que for KRAKATOA KATIE to come out and do her dance!
“Krakatoa Katie she ain’t no lady when she starts to swing her sarong...”
Hard to believe that the first time I ever got turned on it was by a mouse! KRAKATOA KATIE!
We ought to keep an eye on this one. This area has a bad, bad reputation.
Catastrophe ping over here.
EPA to travel to Indonesia with giant cork.
Always wondered... how the writer and film producers got Krakatoa... east of Java?
