Businessman Donald Trump surged into the lead for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, with almost twice the support of his closest rival, just as he ignited a new controversy after making disparaging remarks about Sen. John McCains Vietnam War service, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Support for Trump fell sharply on the one night that voters were surveyed following those comments. Telephone interviewing for the poll began Thursday, and most calls were completed before the news about the remarks was widely reported.
Although the sample size for the final day was small, the decline was statistically significant. Still, it is difficult to predict what could happen to Trumps support in the coming days and weeks as the controversy plays out.

I am a Cruz guy, but that being said one has become the president.
Most of the GOP field fold and backoff any issue by any left wing resistence.
Trump is the only one truly independent of the establishment GOP (progressive wing of GOP).
My retort to anyone saying McCain is a hero because he was a POW.
If McCain is a hero because he was a POW, then Bowe Bergahl is a hero because he was a POW.
Both aided the enemy, but only McCain had an Admiral daddy to cover it up.
Then I ask them to support Bergdahl, an American hero.
Did I read McCain received 28 medals for 20 hours over Vietnam?
“Too bad he didnt stick to his guns and say McCain is no hero”
I’m not a McCain fan but he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
It’s a shame our old pal Kenny Bunk is no longer with us to entertain us with his creative descriptions of John McCain.
now we know why the Media “blacked out” the poll numbers. They were censoring and trying to game the numbers. Which reporter will cry first?
No wonder they are carpet bombing Trump. The more they attack the more popular he becomes.
Don’t miss Trump on O’Reilly tonight!!!!!!! Should be a ratings bonanza.
It’s a trap.

Yep, 28 medals for flying 20 combat hours. And remember it took a while to get to and from the ship so he was over dangerous territory less than 20 hours.
However, he WAS over dangerous territory. I can’t say for sure that I wouldn’t have caved in about 10 seconds of torture. But if I had I wouldn’t be using my POW status to hurt other veterans and the families of MIAs. In fact, I would be living as anonomously as possible and stop anyone from ever talking about my service.
Trump made his money the old-fashioned way: he inherited it. His father was one of the wealthiest developers and landowners in New York. So when Donald goes around pretending to be a self-made man in the mold of Andrew Carnegie, I have to laugh. He's about as self-made as Prince Charles. Moreover, Donald hasn't done such a great job with his inherited wealth: most of the money was squandered on failed, bankrupted ventures.
Hes a business man and entrepreneur ,the guys who built this country like Ford, Edison etc.
Ford and Edison's inventions revolutionized America and the world. You can't say the same for Trump's casinos (most of which he built on property acquired by government seizure, i.e. eminent domain).
He tells it like it is especially about illegals
I agree with what he says NOW about illegals. The problem is, he was saying the exact opposite about illegals in 2012 and during his vanity Reform Party bid in 2000. Even Mitt Romney was too hardline and "heartless" for saying that illegals ought to self-deport according to Donald. He's a guy who says things I agree with one day to get in the media spotlight, and who will say the opposite the next day to stay in the spotlight.
This isn’t an either/or situation.
It is a both/and.
We want someone who is both well-spoken and actually deals with issues. IOW, someone who isn’t a RINO but can actually speak well - and minus using words like a baseball bat.
Cruz combines the best of both, which Trump does not.
not unless you’re a liberal.
Those are great.lolol
Unfortunately Cruz is sitting/hovering around 5%.
And that's not going to get it done.
He's not even in the top tier in Iowa or NH.
Thanks for that link, awesome FReeper!
I’d be real interested in your source of information as to Trump senior wealth and holdings before The Donald started his moves. As I recall the father had no holdings in Manhattan and I don’t recall any mention of the Trump name in any of the Top Ten RE holdings and wealth over the years.
Inquiring minds want to know. How about it?
That trump would risk it all to try to fix this country means a lot. he didn't need to do this nor anything as he could have moved away to some island. what have you accomplished?
name someone, anyone, who has grown his business at an average rate of more than 8% per year, for 45 years straight.
That’s what Trump has done.
Nothing you invested in ever did so good.
McCain's capture and subsequent imprisonment began on October 26, 1967. He was flying his 23rd bombing mission over North Vietnam when his A-4E Skyhawk was shot down by a missile over Hanoi.[34][35] McCain fractured both arms and a leg ejecting from the aircraft,[36] and nearly drowned when he parachuted into Trúc Bạch Lake.[34] Some North Vietnamese pulled him ashore, then others crushed his shoulder with a rifle butt and bayoneted him.[34] McCain was then transported to Hanoi's main Hỏa Lò Prison, nicknamed the "Hanoi Hilton".[35]
Although McCain was badly wounded, his captors refused to treat his injuries, beating and interrogating him to get information; he was given medical care only when the North Vietnamese discovered that his father was a top admiral.[37] His status as a prisoner of war (POW) made the front pages of major newspapers.[38][39]
McCain spent six weeks in the hospital while receiving marginal care.[34] By then having lost 50 pounds (23 kg), in a chest cast, and with his gray hair turned white as snow,[34] McCain was sent to a different camp on the outskirts of Hanoi[40] in December 1967, into a cell with two other Americans who did not expect him to live a week.[41] In March 1968, McCain was put into solitary confinement, where he would remain for two years.[42]
In mid-1968, John S. McCain Jr. was named commander of all U.S. forces in the Vietnam theater, and the North Vietnamese offered McCain early release[44] because they wanted to appear merciful for propaganda purposes,[45] and also to show other POWs that elite prisoners were willing to be treated preferentially.[44] McCain turned down the offer; he would only accept repatriation if every man taken in before him was released as well. Such early release was prohibited by the POW's interpretation of the military Code of Conduct: To prevent the enemy from using prisoners for propaganda, officers were to agree to be released in the order in which they were captured.[34]
In August 1968, a program of severe torture began on McCain.[46] He was subjected to rope bindings and repeated beatings every two hours, at the same time as he was suffering from dysentery.[34][46] Further injuries led to the beginning of a suicide attempt, stopped by guards.[34] Eventually, McCain made an anti-American propaganda "confession".[34] He has always felt that his statement was dishonorable, but as he later wrote, "I had learned what we all learned over there: Every man has his breaking point. I had reached mine."[47][48] Many American POWs were tortured and maltreated in order to extract "confessions" and propaganda statements;[49] virtually all of them eventually yielded something to their captors.[50] McCain subsequently received two to three beatings weekly because of his continued refusal to sign additional statements.[51]
McCain refused to meet with various anti-war groups seeking peace in Hanoi, wanting to give neither them nor the North Vietnamese a propaganda victory.[52] From late 1969 onward, treatment of McCain and many of the other POWs became more tolerable,[53] while McCain continued actively to resist the camp authorities.[54] McCain and other prisoners cheered the U.S. "Christmas Bombing" campaign of December 1972, viewing it as a forceful measure to push North Vietnam to terms.[48][55]
Altogether, McCain was a prisoner of war in North Vietnam for five and a half years. He was released on March 14, 1973.[56] His wartime injuries left him permanently incapable of raising his arms above his head.[57]
Our republic should be resilient enough to survive 8 years of Obama in the White House. I look forward to a new President starting January 20, 2017.
I just ran across it today so I can’t vouch for it. It is definitely a live feed, I know that much. Also it looks great in full screen mode on my 22” desktop and my 8” tablet.
