Centrists would be between 0.5 and -0.5...

Notice that the Court has not had more Conservative than Liberal Justices since 1953.

And this is made even more stark by the obvious fact that the graph is clearly off-set upwards more than a little. Ginsburg was originally a Centrist? Roberts is more Conservative than any of the 3 female Justices are Liberal? ROFL

I also note the slow and consistent downward trend on virtually every Justice.

The imminent confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will likely mean the dawn of a conservative high court for decades to come.

Dear God, please let it be so.

Too funny - the proper term is that it will keep SCOTUS from being so liberally partisan as it has been....

This is not actually obvious. Without a Republican majority in the Senate after the midterms, a conservative Supreme Court could be in jeopardy sooner than anyone on this thread seems to imagine. While old liberal women tend to linger on and on despite obvious health issues, as we have seen recently old conservative justices have a way of just dropping over dead for unexplained reasons. And Justice Thomas has said that he wants to retire.

I fear Kavanaugh will “grow” in his role as an Assoc. Justice on the SCOTUS “Make amends” “Swing vote”....he is replacing the master of ‘swing votes” Kennedy....

My theory is, the cases that will be brought before the Supreme Court going forward will be those where there is a perceived chance that the court could decide either way. So there will continue to be a “swing vote” no matter what. But perhaps what won’t be as obvious, will be the arguments never made because they are pre-judged to be too liberal to pass muster with the majority.

So what I’d expect is that the battleground is increasingly fought in conservative areas, but that may not be all that obvious to the casual observer.

I just hope that the Republicans don’t fold and appoint a Liberal to replace Ginsburg when she goes BLG level. It would be just like them just to appease the Demorats.

I also suspect that should Trump be re-elected, and I’m pretty certain he will be, Thomas may retire middle to late in the second term (2022-23.) Taht could enable Trump to nominate as many as five justices total.

I think he’s 53. Blasey Ford is two years younger.

Ruthie is 85, so Kavanaugh will be her age (now) in 2050. If he serves 32 years, I think we’ll all take that.

Kavanaugh was born on February 12, 1965, so he’s 53.

He shares a birthday with Abe Lincoln.
