Some of this is starting to creep into our forum again, hence the reminder.
Debate the issues all you want, but please don't make it personal. Keep it clean, above board and above belt.
Also, whether pro or con, keep the q stuff off our regular forum threads. Post it on the q thread in chat/conspiracy. But again, keep it clean, don't make it personal, no name calling, no attacks, no threats, no violence.
Don't be a TROLL. Stay on topic, don't flame, don't engage in flamewars, feuds, cross-thread arguments, stalking or harassment.
If you don't like the subject or topic of the thread to the point you become abusive or trollish, stay off it.
The rules also apply to FReepmail. Do not send profane, insulting, threatening, harassing or otherwise unwanted or abusive messages.
If someone says stop, stop.
Do not harass or pester the mods.

If FR were further optimized as a news aggregator, I think it would be more useful. I'm suggesting something like automatically checking for redundancies, enhancing searching and sorting, organizing multiple articles on the same event into one bin, etc. IMO the whole commenting system can be dropped if this makes things simpler.

My point was that you’ve supposedly been here two years and find the language/profanity upsetting while I’ve been here way longer and find that minor in the scheme of things. So it’s not new or even upsetting to me while other things are whereas they may not be to you.

I find online/SM to be sophomoric but unfortunately real life mirrors that now, more so.
It’s common on here and I assume other message boards, at least those I frequent/read, to question or be suspicious of newcomers. The term troll gets bandied about quite a bit. In my years posting online (2002?) on and off, I learned not to care about much of it except for the very few connections I’ve made.
The one thing I’ll say about FR is no matter what, you won’t be stalked or harassed (but yeah, hazed probably, lol). It’s safe here.

We’ve never been promised anything (protected caucus status). Our early threads were large, numerous, and submerged under trolling. I offered to put all Q threads into one so we wouldn’t encounter hostility everywhere at once. I had no intention of making others combine on one, but that those of us who would agree would gather in one place and post sequential threads. I never heard back if my suggestion/request if we combined our threads into one, would help the forum - we just did it. Flame wars continued as others posted in the forum and troll wars continued on our combined Q thread.
At some point, our early combined threads had about 45% troll posts in the first 100 as they tried to shut us down. It may be best to combine reports to admin into fewer “report abuse” instances, and provide documentation/links/details demonstrating concerted effort or repeated trolling so admin doesn’t have to hunt to figure out what’s going on, and so they know it’s not just someone being touchy. I don’t know if there’s anything to that - it’s just my theory.
Sometimes we receive help, sometimes we don’t. One time they simply locked our thread and mocked us for “crying”. You get what you get. But keep pedaling.
Jim asked us to post our Q thread in “conspiracy” and that no other Q threads be posted in the forum. We still get overrun with trolls, but Jim posts in the forum asking people who aren’t interested in the topic or are against the topic to stay off it. We then quote Jim’s house rules to trolls and some make it plain that they don’t respect his house rules.
You may try putting cold fusion in conspiracy because it kind of satiates trolls who then feel like they are inflicting flesh wounds upon you by sneering your thread is in “conspiracy” - meanwhile you get to have a worthwhile conversation and you don’t care what forum it’s in.
We’ve been told that the Trump Train is in the forum known as the “Smokey Back Room” and that they have a cooperative environment wherein it’s not a debate forum so those coming to disrupt are easily identified (admin).
Our Q threads require collegial debate, as I think likely for cold fusion threads if you want to refine ideas. We are unable to supply any sort of rules to admin that would reliably separate disrupters from analysts hammering out theories through debate so we don’t go to the smokey back room.
Religion forums function the same way - if for example one is not Catholic, then one is not to go and refute anyone on a Catholic religion forum. I just assume your science need would require scientific debate.
I think Vendome started a thread collecting some specific content (I forget what it was). They were collecting content on a specific topic and told people arriving “This is a research thread....” It apparently wasn’t controversial enough for trolls to over run it - or Vendome is a popular guy and had cooperation our Q threads don’t.
Possibly you could ask Jim if it would help if all threads in support of cold fusion were combined into one standing research thread. If, like me, you receive no answer then you’d set one up and try to make it clear in the title and first posts that while the topic is controversial, the thread is for those who have decided there’s merit in the idea worth exploring (or something less flame worthy, “RESEARCH THREAD: For those who enjoy discussing potential design/application of cold fusion”. Then pedal as hard as you can and see if it picks up speed.
Expect troll onslaughts. Ask people on the cold fusion thread not to engage trolls - it helps admin sort out who belongs there if it’s clear some are trying to shut down discussion. Trolls will come, some fusion souls will engage them no matter how many times you ask, but keep pedaling and see what happens.

Today, of course, it’s cool to pretend that freepers supported our constitutional efforts to save our republic. But that wasn’t even nearly the case at the time.
Free Republic needs to get a corral around its asshole brigade.
I think, and I am not alone in this, that many of them are not merely cantankrous old idiots who enjoy discord, but actually players on the other team. A surprising number have very old sign up dates and often when checking, no comments for years, then they pop up. Hijacked screen names maybe.
Many use Delphi techniques to create acrimony and get people on their side. “In crowd” mentality like high school girls is then part of it. Definitely many are either RINO or Demshevik agents. They enjoy what they do.
