If all their ICU has is 10 beds then 104% of 10 beds is just 10 damned beds with one tall patients feet hanging off the end. >p> Without the number of beds and patients in that hospital ICU this story is nothing but useless sensationalism around statistics that grabs the attention of fear monkeys and gets them howling and throwing poop.
I did a fairly extensive search for the number of ICU beds at the University of Utah Health and came up with NOTHING. I then made the extra effort of calling them directly and asking them to give me with the number of ICU beds they have. The operator told me she would have their public affairs office get back to me via an employee by the name of Shanna. I will let you know when I find out.
Have fun freaking out and clutching your pillow.
Notice how this article provides no actual numbers.
How many beds did this place have? How many patients made up 104% of ICU. How many non-ICU beds are there? How many other hospitals and beds are available in the same city? Same county? Etc...
It’s not a news report.
I work in an ER for a critical access hospital here in SW Missouri. Typically we transfer to Springfield or Joplin but, for over a month, we have been unable to get beds in either city to transfer critical patients. There are 4 big hospitals between the two towns. We’ve had to transfer patients to KC instead. Not sure how much has to do with covid, all I know is it’s tough to get beds.
Utah is one of the least impacted states. It is 45th in deaths per million with 170 deaths per million.
Compare to New York and New Jersey both states with more than ten times higher death rates.
Utah has maintained a flat curve throughout with the recent “surge” being average of 5 deaths per day vs 3 or so.
This report is nonsense and meaningless.
Please read my 62 and 64 on this thread and respond. Thanks.
They probably refuse to prescribe the hydroxychloriquine cocktail because there is so much money in getting people admitted and put on respirators. Happening all over the country.
An ER doctor refused to give me the hydroxychloriquine cocktail, but was willing to admit me. Told her no and went out and procured the Z-pac from the VA and got the HCQ from a friend. 5 days later, I tested negative. Under $50 in prescriptions.
I just got a call back from the University of Utah Health and was told they have has exactly 111 ICU beds. The story you posted neglected to mention exactly how many Covid patients they had versus other people in the ICU for other illnesses. However 111 beds were how to max of 111 people out of the state population of 1.1 million people in the Salt Lake metropolitan area. that equates to if one out of 1000 people in the metropolitan area I had to go to the ICU for Covid. Given that at least 50% of the beds in that ICU are probably occupied by patients who been in car accidents, lawnmower accidents, had a heart attack or stroke, I cannot see anyone getting that worked up about it.
You can unclench now brave little soldier.
They have full beds. I wonder how many of those patients really need to be there and how much they are being used for propaganda and fund raising purposes.
My thoughts, too.
