Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would be "welcoming" of a measure from Congress to defund the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) if he's elected president next year.
The comments from DeSantis, who officially announced this week that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, came during a conversation with radio host and Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch on The Dana Show.
During the interview, DeSantis was asked whether he would sign a measure from Congress to abolish the IRS through funding means, as well as what he would replace the system with.
"Are you for a fair tax, a flat tax, where do you stand on that?" Loesch asked DeSantis.
"So, the answer's yes. I think the IRS is a corrupt organization and I think it's not a friend to the average citizen or taxpayer," DeSantis responded. "We need something totally different."
I've supported all of the single rate proposals, I think they would be a huge improvement over the current system and I would be welcoming to take this tax system, chunk it out the window and do something that's more favorable to the average folks."
DeSantis, who has repeatedly taken aim at the IRS for its unfair practices and crackdown on the middle class, said last August that an effort from the Biden administration to expand the IRS with 87,000 new agents was an indication of disrespect.
"Of all the things that have come out of Washington that have been outrageous, this has got to be pretty close to the top," DeSantis said at the time. "I think it was basically just the middle finger to the American public, that this is what they think of you."

Whatever the irs gets replaced with, what will prevent future agents of the new agency that replaced the old irs from acting as corrupt as they are now.
Tear down, replace it, they’ll still behave badly.

Without the embedded taxes, which are invisible, the true tax paid is much more transparent. That is an important aspect of the Fair Tax that is often missed, i.e. the removal of value added taxes will drive down end user prices. Assuming a free and competitive marketplace.

How is replacing Trump with DeSantis going to change ANYTHING with respect to how the DeepState deals with the guy in their crosshairs? No matter how you look at it Trump has one more play until he’s played out. But could the Wunderkinder of Florida hedge his bets, watch, build the brand,work for harmony on our side, gain as much political heft with as many as possible? Nope. I am decidedly not a DeSantis admirer. Trump has shown that to the limits of the possible he fights for the success of America & Americans. W/O the resistance by entrenched politicians his proposals would have balanced the books & eliminated Federal debt in 1-2 decades.
America’s success will be advanced by a dramatic reduction of bureaucracy and Government “services”. I favor a VAT type tax myself with cutouts for necessities to provide a safety net. So we are in agreement.

That’s been the DeSantis plan all along - to replace the unconstitutional IRS with a flat/fair tax, so even billionaires like Trump and welfare recipients alike all have to pay the same rate as everyone else.
Yet Trump has put out these 100% dishonest adds claiming that DeSantis wants to RAISE taxes by 23% on everyone, when the truth is obviously that DeSantis wants to REPLACE all other taxes with the flat 23%.
It’s past time some Trump supporters call out Trump for this deceitful new ad campaign which is unfairly attacking a true conservative proposal.
Sorry, but Trump is not “owed” this nomination.

Many of us disagree and believe it is time to move on, especially after Trump blamed conservatives for the loss in 2022.
Trump torpedoed a true conservative in the Pennsylvania senate primary using outright LIES and installed a carpetbagger pro-child genital mutilation, anti-gun dual citizen as our nominee who rightly lost to the braindead Fetterman.
Trump has endorsed Ronna Romney McDaniel and RINO McCarthy, who just sold us out on the debt ceiling.
Trump welcomes RINOs Haley and Scott to the primary race with nice words. He has not had a nice word for DeSantis since Trump helped Charlie Crist in the final weeks of the 2022 campaign.
Given Trump’s attacks on DeSantis are coming from the left, many of us are concerned about Trump’s thinking.
Trump said he wants to negotiate a federal abortion limit that the whole country can agree with.
Trump banned bump stocks and was ready to sign an assault weapons ban.

No you want someone who will go down in flames rather than accomplishing something.
The way to succeed in moving the ball down the court against “impossible” odds is to keep moving, take the best solution available at each decision point and keep the end goal in site for the next opportunity.
To succeed you have to put the desired goal above the many compromises that disgust you, the slime that you have to deal with must be managed with finesse. The purist has self satisfaction and no chance of success, the pragmatist with fire, flexibility & tenacity wins out in the end.

The accusations you continuously spray at Trump are twisted out of context and often inaccurate. It comes of black white thinking w/o attempt to understand the nuances or exigencies of real life.
DeSantis is delusional if he really thinks he’d ever be able to “defund” the IRS...or any alpha Gov agency. It has become ingrained in American society to accept our big “G” masters now. Those of us that are against it are in the minority. And thousands (millions?) of illegals....soon to be deemed “legal citizens that vote”.... are flooding across our border daily to cement that mentality for future generations.
I don’t like politicians and I especially don’t like politicians that make fantasy-like promises. Sorry, but no sell. He would do better to just fall back on the “secure the border” line like Trump did.

That's a non-starter with me. Abolish the IRS. Cut all foreign aid. Restore all import tarriff's and fees as the founding fathers intended to run the country on.

Wake up, Trump has already gone down in flames. He's lost a huge portion of his original base of Christians and conservatives by his pandering to the left, and can barely even muster 50% popularity in the primary polls despite trying to position himself as the incumbent.

Best fighter we have? If you mean by holding rallies which didn't help him win 2020, and being a keyboard warrior on his new website, sure, he's good at that. What he's not good at is actually rolling up his sleeves and doing the hard work that's necessary to win the swing states he lost in 2020. He's done nothing in any of those states since he lost, with regard to investigating or securing the election process, or proving he can do anything more than throw childlike insults at his opponents, which may have fired up his WWE groupies but turns everyone else off.

So desantis wants to switch to another kind of tax? What solution does he have for people who are retired? ....who paid income tax all their working lives, and have no income to pay from to feed some other tax structure?
Same here. Which is why I don't accept Trump's ONLY actual contribution to securing our elections has been to go to his rallies, and say he wants to require every state to institute same day, in person voting. That's it. That's all he's done since 2020 to secure elections. Talk about a fantasy, too. The President doesn't even have that sort of power, it's legally a state issue. At least in the case of the IRS and DeSantis, it's a federal issue, that he's already voted for in the past, and the momentum is growing.
Trump is causing his supporters to twist into positions they should be ashamed of.
NY is a better state than Florida!
