Having A Change Of Heart About Trump

Posted on 08/30/2023 9:51:57 AM PDT by redheadedshannon

I expected after the 2020 election & the multiple disappointments since, that as the primary season leading up to 2024 lingered on, I would find myself supporting somebody other than Trump. I happily voted for him in both elections & certainly loved his America First stances that should always have been part of conservative orthodoxy. Reducing immigration, favoring the Americsn worker & only supporting trade that benefits the people of this nation.

His arrival on the political stage happened at a time when the only brand of Conservatism that was allowed by elites was the big business, corporate, tax cutting type that constantly involved us in foreign wars, supported mass third world immigration for the cheap labor express and wanted an internationalist future. They were always the weakest strain that never seemed willing to fight back.

His election was thrilling & it meant the world to all of us who wanted leaders that actually stood up to leftist bullies & the media. His staffing choices were never the greatest and Lord knows he underestimated the opposition, but it was impossible not to be thankful for a Trump Presidency. How awful would a President Hillary Clinton have been? We needed him there.

The one space that I could never seem to force myself into was being an apologist that silenced any criticisms. I was never going to be the girl that was unfailingly supportive of any political figure. His biggest supporters always seemed to go overboard on making everything about loyalty to him. The argumentative stance they took seemed to shout down any questions or reservations from fellow conservatives. It still goes on & isn't productive. Criticism would help to hone his political stances & make him tougher to beat. He proved not to be amazing at helping pick candidates that would win elections.

After consistent losses for Republicans in 2020 and 2022, we were presented with a question of who should be the leader in the 2024 Presidential race. Was it time to choose a new standard bearer? Many of us were thrilled with the lopsided Florida elections that won majorities of Hispanics and other elusive groups. Governor DeSantis seemed a rising star with solid conservative stances and a bright future.

To date, DeSantis and all other candidates have proved lackluster on the national stage. Though most will probably do great in the future, they seem unprepared for the office they seek. During this time, polls of Republicans and conservatives have shown a clear favorite in Trump. So many of the others running have failed to win support because of how new and untested they are.

We have also all been watching a Democrat Party actively pursing the prosecution & conviction of Trump, his lawyers & ultimately his supporters. To say that this is a worrying sign would be an understatement of epic proportions. This sign is a warning that we are on our last legs as a nation & are about to head into Civil War #2.

During the debate, Mike Pence summed up the position of most in Washington and elites around the nation. He hearkened back to the days of Reagan and a shining city on a hill. Ramaswamys response summed up the sentiments of conservative voters: this isn't the 1980s, it's not morning in America & it's impossible to go back. Stop living in the past & deal with our current reality, which is quite dark & deteriorating constantly!

I think we are all aware of global elites & their agenda. We are fighting a worldwide, left wing, totalitarian cabal that appear to want us turned into serfs and/or eliminated completely. They want a borderless world without national loyalties, an economy designed to only benefit elites, a lack of faith in God and an unelected, appointed government & police state.

Watching criminalized opposition, seeing Soros/Zuckerberg influence, experiencing election fraud and finding out about bizarre happenings like the Hawaii fires, has coalesced to make a strong argument in Trumps favor at this important time! I will always have criticisms of people on our side because I want us to win & anything we are failing at needs to be corrected to ensure that we succeed. The stars are too high to sit around and kiss anybodys butt!

Any criticism that most conservatives have is centered around making sure we don't get involved in petty arguments, that we support whomever we want in primaries, but support all Reublicans in the general to ensure Democrats won't have power, that we stop fighting amongst ourselves & that we make election security a priority.

Trump supporters need to allow some criticism, so that he changes tacts when needed & hones his debating skills. He has to appeal to the broader electorate and win enough of a majority to prevent Democrats efforts to cheat from succeeding. They need to understand that many of us would like to see a rising star like DeSantis or Ramaswamy elevated to more important positions for the future. We have got to have leaders for an era post-Trump & we need Congressional & state Republicans to work with Trump to get things done. That cant happen if you attack any and all who express a concern. In essence, we need to be more productive and stop fighting with each other.

I dont know what the perfect answer is for us, but I think the best answer at this time is to work to get Trump reelected, work to ensure fairness in elections and stop the barrage of communist BS and woke lefty ideology from advancing. I would strongly urge any and all conservatives, even if you don't support him in the primaries, to absolutely support Trump passionately in the general election. We have to turn out in the greatest numbers they've ever seen & get all Republicans elected to as many offices as humanly possible!

“All the pandering to Israel”? Got lost on the way to a different forum? Opus? You’re on a pro-Israel forum, in case you didn’t notice.

I suppose you prefer the pandering of the illegitimate current regime to Iran. And no, that’s not a false dilemma.

How do you “play on new terrain” that was designed to hobble you at every turn?

Trump is the George Washington of our time. The tyrants are after his neck and if they get it, they will surely come after ours.

DeSantis doesn’t have the strength of will to fight this tyranny. If we get anyone other than Trump as our nominee, all will be lost.

It’s Trump or Bust. Literally.

Don’t Tread on Me.

Could start with the solutions that I outlined. But what do you suggest? If the idea is just give up, sorry I’m going to pass on that

To people who wish to be free to dig at Trump on some point or another (like the meltdown Kilmead did on Fox when Trump announced a pullout from Syria), it may seem that Trump backers are myopic and intolerant of criticism.

I don’t think that’s the issue. I think that, for purposes of illustration, if we’re in a horse race and we’re mounted up, off and running, we need to refrain from doing things to slow the horse down.

Trump is the horse we’re riding. If we harm him, we harm ourselves. There are people in both parties who naturally hate Trump. If we’re not in that category, but natter on him anyway, we’re in effect joining our voices to theirs.

I think we provide bulletin board material for the opposition if we give them quotes they could say, “Why, even people in his own party agree w/ us that Trump sucks”.

For my money, Trump is the best president in my 77 years, BY FAR, despite having been up to his a$$ in swamp alligators from day 1.

If stupid and nasty were sufficient to preserve liberty America wouldn't be in so much trouble.

1. Not going scorched earth against the communists from day one (Jan. 20th, 2017) and every day thereafter.
2. Making terrible appointments.
3. Not getting the wall built.
4. All of the pandering to blacks.
5. All of the pandering to Israel.
6. Weakness in the face of antifa and BLM terrorism.
7. Absolutely botching the covid response.
8. Allowing the Satanists to steal the 2020 election.
9. Being utterly unprepared to contest the stolen 2020 election.

1 - What have your GOP elite perfumed princes done about them?
2 - Yep, he trusted some wrong people.
3 - You mean when he was fighting both parties on the issue?
4 - Do you consider policies that reversed decades of intentional mismanagement by “progressive” democrats as “pandering?”
5 - How was moving our embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, as Trump’s predecessors promised, “pandering?”
6 - Were you expecting Trump to call them out for a showdown at High Noon?
7 - Trump left it up to states. When he pushed to open everything back up on the first easter after the initial shut down, the Democrats blocked it. Did you expect him to go all Andrew Jackson on them?
8 - What did YOU do about the election theft?
9 - What did YOU do about the election theft?

Be honest, you wanted Jebbie!

What do you mean by “new terrain” anyhow? Acknowledge the subversion of the Constitution and proceed with an un-American form of government?

Read the post two down on FR about the question that was not asked at the debate. I am 100% in with Trump. The deep state is a huge threat to our nation. It is THE issue.

MAGA is a movement, the movement is to end the states control over the peons. Trump currently is the only one close to trying to get the most difficult task possible for any man.

After the non stop going after him and the proof that it is all lies, means to me they got to you. They gas lighted you so bad you are willing to cut off your nose to spite your face. It’s not about you, it’s not about Trump, it is only about restoring the Constitution.

Did I have the demeanor of someone who wants to give up? Sorry if I gave that impression; to be sure, it’s quite the opposite. But the fraud is not mere “shenanigans”, being termed a “coup du publique”.

Saying that certain states could have been “flipped” had conservatives remained as resident voters is denial of fraud right there. With all due respect, you can’t acknowledge fraud and deny it at the same time.

Great grounded post. I agree. Trump is perhaps the only person who can stop and reverse the crap Biden and Demx did
I really just wish someone would convince him to not be so petty and rude to the people he doesn’t like.

Agreed! Trump has all the right enemies. I come into 24 still not looking for a victory without a miracle because of the fraud that is now institutionalized in many states.

I have decided I could support Trump or DeSantis but the rest of the GOP field are Bush drones and I am not voting for anymore of those useless parasites. They repeat the same lines that have been SOP for the Republican candidates since 1988 and they all are lying through their teeth when they utter the lines and there isn’t an original thought in the entire bunch.

DeSantis has been a good governor, but after watching him I think he needs a couple of things, more polish in the public setting, and he needs to fire every Republican who is a consultant in his realm and keep the Republican establishment at arms length at ALL times. They are not an asset and they are an extreme liability. If the establishment is for or against something he needs to question that topic and expect they are lying and do the opposite. I do think in 28, if we are still here he could be an excellent choice.

Trump is Trump, I’m not voting for a pastor, but a president, he’s no saint, no savior, he’s a man who makes mistakes one being an inability to recognize the enemy from within his own circle, he picks stupid fights at times that waste time and effort—BUT HE FIGHTS. The Republican Party is a cowards coward when it comes to being a political party. There is not a set of balls or spine among the entire bunch. Trump does fight and they hate him for it.

Tom in SFCA I am commenting in capital letters on your view of Trump’s mistakes.

“”””What mistakes?

1. Not going scorched earth against the communists from day one (Jan. 20th, 2017) and every day thereafter.

2. Making terrible appointments. THERE ARE 4,000 POLITICAL APPOINTMENTS THAT WERE APPOINTED BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS FROM GOP LEADERS.

3. Not getting the wall built. TRUMP HAD A MAJORITY HOUSE AND SENATE IN 2017/18 AND THE HOUSE AND SENATE LEADERS DID ALL THEY COULD TO BLOCK THE WALL BEING BUILT. REMEMBER PAUL RYAN BY CHANCE?

4. All of the pandering to blacks. WHY IS THIS A MISTAKE FOR TRUMP TO MAKE BLACK LIVES BETTER?

5. All of the pandering to Israel. WHY IS THIS A MISTAKE TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT THE ONLY DEMOCRACY IN THE MIDDLE EAST?

6. Weakness in the face of antifa and BLM terrorism. THE STATES AND CITIES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT. IF THE DEMOCRAT RUN CITIES WHERE THE RIOTS OCCURED DID NOTHING, IS THAT TRUMPS PROBLEM?

7. Absolutely botching the covid response. DID ANYONE KNOW THAT CDC/NIH HAD BEEN UP TO THEIR EYEBALLS IN CREATING COVID? AND COULD NOT BE TRUSTED?

8. Allowing the Satanists to steal the 2020 election. DID ANYONE SUSPECT THAT THE REPUBLICANS IN PA AND GA HAD BEEN WILLING PARTICIPANTS WITH THE DEMOCRATS IN PASSING LAWS AND AGREEING TO SETTLEMENTS THAT MAKE VOTER FRAUD EASIER?

9. Being utterly unprepared to contest the stolen 2020 election. WAS ANYONE AWARE THAT THE REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP WAS MORE THAN HAPPY TO WALK AWAY FROM TRUMP AT ANYTIME?

FROM WHAT YOU WROTE, IT APPEARS YOU ARE EXPRESSING THE INTENTIONAL ACTIONS BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY LEADERSHIP TO GET RID OFF TRUMP BY WHATEVER MEANS THERE ARE.

I could go on and on. The dude came in knowing nothing about politics and he failed to staff his administration with people loyal to him and his MAGA agenda. I’m not sure he’s learned all that much and I don’t know that he has a better team surrounding him.
