Judge fines Donald Trump more than $300 million, bars him from running businesses in N.Y. for three years

The judge who presided over a civil business fraud trial against Donald Trump and his company has issued his decision in the case.

Judge Arthur Engoron ordered the former president and the Trump Organization to pay over $364 million in damages, and bars Trump "from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years."

The judgment is the second this year against Trump after he was hit last month with an $83.3 million verdict in writer E. Jean Carroll's defamation case against him. The former president could also face four criminal trials this year as his presidential campaign barrels toward the November election, with the first set to begin in New York state court on March 25th.

New York Attorney General Letitia James had been seeking $370 million from Trump, his company and its top executives, including his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, alleging "repeated and persistent fraud" that included falsifying business records and financial statements. James had argued those financial statements were at times exaggerated by as much as $2.2 billion.

For starters, Alina Habba didn’t request a jury trial.

Based on the Carroll verdict, there was probably no harm there.

Engoron just added $500 million to Trumps war chest.

I guess they can accuse and convict anyone of anything if they feel like it....regardless of the facts. Thank God Trump can afford to fight this...most of us would have had to roll over.

The thing is....they aren’t even embarrassed at the law being used to railroad someone and destroy any faith in the USA legal system.

It’s not. Companies are forced to pay fines frequently.

In real trials, not trials where the defendant is not allowed to plead innocent or present a defense.

Trump ought to sell every ounce of real estate in New York to some Saudi prince and do business in cities with sane leadership.

Will be overturned on appeal. But they they get the headline when they need it.

It's a deliberate and calculated effort to tarnish Trump's reputation during an election cycle. So far, it's not working, but expect Tricky Nikki, Willard McRomney, and Christie the Hutt to all get air time on the corporate media to bash Trump about these absurd NY judgments.

There is an article today that the owners are tearing down the massive Penn Hotel in midtown due to lack of business and the owner will build tennis courts on the site. A harbinger of things to come for the rotten Apple.

Building tennis courts at that location is like establishing an urban farm at Times Square or on Wall Street. It's right across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, and would be a prime address if NYC wasn't such a dump.

Dem officials challenge Trump being on ballots.

Lawfare slanders him, gives negative views of him on news stories and ties him up with months of court appearances, defense work with attorneys billable hours paid.

Juries already seething with hatred and bias against Trump set up millions of dollars in fines for him to pay.

Supporters vow to turn the other cheek, love thy neighbor and promise total lack of retaliation.

I'm surprised they hadn't filled it with illegals. Just what you want next to Penn Station. While you're waiting for your train, you can go play tennis, and be mugged at the same time.

Yes, there was.

“On July 31, the New York attorney general’s office filed paperwork telling the judge it had completed all its pre-trial work and was prepared for a trial. On that form, the lawyers checked a box requesting a “Trial without jury.”

i don’t get it. why doesn’t Trump and his lawyers counter sue and drag some of these people into TX or TN? he’s a billionaire so he has the money to burn. lawfare can work both ways.

I wonder if the judge would understand if many people sent him a banana?

Your argument is weird.

yes for wrong doing, usually in federal court, sometimes in state court, but this case was pure BS, judge issues a summary judgment without a trial??? then does not want to hear what PDJT has to say about anything..

Didn’t he put all his assets in a trust when he became president? Trump may be what some people call judgement proof.

IIRC he moved the running of his businesses to his kids; maybe his other assets were moved also .
