UPDATE: A New York prosecutor told jurors that Donald Trump’s hush money trial was “about a criminal conspiracy and a cover up,” part of an effort to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
Assistant District Attorney Matthew Colangelo’s opening statement sought to elevate the criminal charges against Trump as no mere white-collar misdeed, but something that had an impact on the direction of the country.
“No politician wants bad press, but the evidence at trial will show that this was not spin or communication strategy. This was a planned, coordinated ongoing conspiracy to influence the 2016 election,” Colangelo said.

Maybe the jury will decide that Trump’s actions did influence the election...and therefore he owes Hillary the money she would have been paid if she had been President for 4 years.
ridiculous sure but this prick knows his audience and this BS is exactly what they want to hear
“Unbelievable that they are able to argue that in court.”
indeed ... since none of that is actually at issue in the charges before the court ... can’t believe trump’s lawyers aren’t objecting to this stuff left and right, at least to establish a few hundred MORE grounds for appeal ...
The FEC has EXCLUSIVE authority to prosecute election crimes. There is no STANDING for a state to prosecute. As such, those charges should be dropped.
Without the federal “crimes” the state charges, by law drop to misdemeanor. Those charges were made after the statue of limitations ran out. By law, they should also be dropped.
This would leave the prosecution with .... nothing.
And, there it is!
This is the Hill-dog getting back at Trump any way she can for kicking her useless ass in 2016.
She’s behind every bit of this.
I guess I’m not sure when trying to influence an election became a criminal act. Everything politicians and the media do are intended to influence an election.
And when did trying to influence the outcome of an election become a crime?
Isn't this the purpose of every campaign speech, commercial, and TV appearance? Isn't this the primary activity and objective of every politician?
Smashing phone with hammer.”Hillary Clinton used a hammer to destroy evidence of a private email server and classified information on that server and was never indicted,” Nancy Mace, a Republican representative for South Carolina”.
“No politician wants bad press, but the evidence at trial will show that this was not spin or communication strategy. This was a planned, coordinated ongoing conspiracy to influence the 2016 election,”
Does he mean like the Russian Collusion Hoax. When does NY AG Bragg indict for that Crime committed by an in-state personality-—Hillary Clinton?
How about speeches? Campaign ads? Endorsements?
All meant to influence the election. Are they legal?
It’s called campaigning, FFS! The very goal is to influence the campaign so the candidate ends up winning.
They moving the brutha to the back of the bus - again.
Exactly. Giving a speech and explaining why people should vote for you is clearly a conspiracy to influence an election. The speechwriter, the person who set up the microphone, the person who rented the hall, and even the people chasing away the protestors are obviously conducting a conspiracy to get their candidate elected.
>> can’t believe trump’s lawyers aren’t objecting to this stuff left and right
I’m no lawyer, but I think the criteria for objecting to opening statement is different than objecting during witness examination.
Pray that President Trump’s lawyers refute every lie and skillfully point out the folly of the whole trial in THEIR opening statement!
“The prosecution has emphasized and repeatedly stated that there was some sort of grand criminal conspiracy to affect the 2016 election.
We all know, no matter how much they try…no matter how much they try to silence us, that this very case is an effort…a conspiracy…to adversely affect the 2024 presidential election …and that is a grave assault upon democracy.”
At times like this, jury nullification is necessary for justice.
“about a criminal conspiracy and a cover up”
How do we try to make an everyday event into something horribly sinister!?!?!?!?
...and oh, ignore the fact that Congress has a slush fund to pay off people for exactly the same reasons.
So now they will go after Bill Clinton who paid Paul Jones $850,000 to drop her case?
Paging Bill Clinton, please pick up the white phone……
