Noem Defends Killing Dog, Suggests Biden’s Dog Should Be Shot
Breitbart ^ | 05/05/2024 | Pam Key

Posted on 05/05/2024 11:08:32 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

Governor Kristi Noem (R-SD) said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that she had to kill her dangerous dog, adding that President Joe Biden’s dog “has attacked 24 Secret Service people.”

Partial transcript as follows:

MARGARET BRENNAN: Okay, so you don’t agree with Mr. Trump’s statement there. I want to ask you again about the book. I- I know you know, this question is coming, because there’s been such an enormous backlash about your revelation that you shot and killed a Wirehair Pointer or named Cricket, who was 14 months old. You say in the book, she came from another family that struggled with her aggression, you’d been training her to hunt, she got too excited, ruined the hunt, and then attacked and killed some chickens. I wonder if you have regrets about sharing this story.

40-34-1. Killing of dog lawful when disturbing domestic animals: It shall be lawful for any person to kill any dog found chasing, worrying, injuring, or killing poultry or domestic animals except on the premises of the owners of said dog or dogs. Source: SDC 1939, § 40.1312.

Most of the rural/country folk I've talked to since this story leaked have been flabbergasted by people's negative reactions, because chicken-killers are liabilities. It's been a demonstration of genuine cultural differences between her upbringing and most of the people in modern America (as even seen here on this forum).

(That's a separate discussion from the political wisdom of bringing it up in the first place; the only rational options as to why are that she wants to take herself out of any consideration for national office, or that she wanted to release the story on her own terms for fear it would be an October Surprise later on.)

Also, you either don't know the difference between man's best friend and a cow or you are a Jain Dharma, Hindu or African pagan…or perhaps you are just being a troll.

There is no difference unless you are Hindu and worship cows. Animals are animals, without souls. They are not the equivalent of human beings.

I don't give a freep what you believe but you and ones attacking Noem are ones that have beliefs as perverted as PETA and animal rights wackos.

When normal people see a domestic dog they don't think “Yum, dinner” unless you are Obama…or you.

You're a little too attached to dogs if you think of any worth than cow or pig. So much so, I wonder if you're not into bestiality.

That’s right; there was no need to tell anyone about what she had done.

It comes down to a cultural difference.

A dog can be distinguished between a companion, a pet, a tool, or food.

Most people reading Noem’s story think in terms of companion/pet, and not in terms of a tool (which is clearly Noem’s perspective, and rather commonplace in the rural countryside).

As for those who think of dogs as food, you’d probably have to go to parts of Africa or Asia (especially China or Vietnam).

Like the Rocketman story, may be imaginary.

The problem is that she made it a major issue.

Dog owners/trainers breeders put dogs down all the time.

I grew up in a city, but have lived in the countryside for the last half century or so. Dogs that mess with neighbors’ chickens are expected to be put down. And no, if you are really living in the sticks, there aren’t shelters to take them in.

Completely agree.

She needs to shut up!
This is all her own handy work.
She decided to put it in her book. So she should have known that there will be a controversial reaction from the public.
Right or wrong, what did she expect the public reaction would be?
She either did this intentionally to really get her name into every American household, or she is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Btw, did she do the training of the 14 month old pup or did she hire someone?
I would really like to have more info on that!

“She took it in because the previous owner said it was dangerous.
She was going to try to train it to not be vicious. Didn’t work.”

In her book, Gov. Neom described Cricket has having an aggressive personality. She did not say the dog was dangerous and vicious and I very highly doubt anyone with half a brain would attempt to train a dangerous and vicious animal to hunt pheasant or allow to run loose in the presence of children or livestock.

Your attempt to defend Governor Neom is just making her look worse. You are basically arguing that the Governor is a person who has very poor judgement.

She’s right ... not only his dog but his less than worthless Administration should be put down.... humanely of course.

My father trained a number of prize-winning hunting dogs, mostly Brittanys. High strung and annoyingly intelligent. One in particular was sneaky, could climb almost any fence and even turn doorknobs, but one was just stupid but nevertheless a sweetie.

He tried to train a Finnish Spitz, a nasty biter. Didn’t work, but didn’t have to be put down until crippling old age, thanks to tolerant neighbors. Most untrainable dogs aren’t so lucky, and shouldn’t be.

Cheney shot his friend and it turned out ok for him until he went rogue.

“Most untrainable dogs aren’t so lucky, and shouldn’t be.”

It is my philosophy that I adapt to the animal. If an animal can’t be trained to hunt, then it becomes a pet. If it is overly aggressive, then I make sure it is secured. I’ve had smart dogs, stupid dogs, trained dogs, mean dogs and overly friendly dogs. I cared for each of them as best I could.

Yeah, but Cheney got lucky and only shot a lawyer.

Noem shot a dog.

That changes everything

lol. She’s clearly not interested in a future in politics. I wonder if she’s doing this destructive behavior on purpose.
