I don’t typically like writing about firearms on this blog, as there’s a lot of other outlets that do that, and I think that guns get WAY too much focus in the Survivalism and Preparedness community. They’re important and fun, but other stuff, like growing food and having a good store of tools, is just as important. That being said, like with all things, a baseline must first be recognized and then built upon, never detracted from- in order to maximize our capabilities. Hanging out on the sidelines of a public range can be a hobby all to its own;...

Image from CBS58.com In Houston, on Monday, 28 January, a no-knock search warrant resulted in the wounding of four police officers and the death of middle aged couple who had owned their home for 20 years. The deaths and woundings seem to have come from the use of the no-knock warrant. There have been many problems with no-knock warrants. Thousands of no-knock warrants are used each year. In Milwaukee, on 6 February, a Milwaukee tactical team was serving a search warrant in an investigation of illegal drug and firearms sales. It is unclear if the warrant was a no-knock...

In the first firearms related Second Amendment case to be heard in a decade, the Supreme Court granted a writ of Certiorari (decided to hear) the case of New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. The City of New York. This case will have major ramifications for Second Amendment jurisprudence. New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. City of New York, New York, No. 18-280 Issue(s): Whether New York City’s ban on transporting a licensed, locked and unloaded handgun to a home or shooting range outside city limits is consistent with the Second Amendment, the commerce...

In the year since the deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school, more and more states have passed laws making it easier to take guns away from people who may be suicidal or bent on violence against others, and courts are issuing an unprecedented number of seizure orders across the country. Supporters say these “red flag” laws are among the most promising tools to reduce the nearly 40,000 suicides and homicides by firearm each year in the U.S. Gun advocates, though, say such measures undermine their constitutional rights and can result in people being stripped of their weapons on...

Suspects who allegedly entered a Brevard County, Florida, home Thursday and pointed a gun at woman’s head were shot dead by the woman’s son. News 6 reported that 20-year-old Alvin Smalls and 18-year-old Amir Rashad Lynn allegedly broke into the home at a time when the mother’s son was in the house asleep. The son awoke to strange sounds, only to discover the suspects allegedly had his mother at gunpoint. The son shot the suspects. Smalls died in the home and Lynn fled, only to die later at a hospital. The son called 911 after shooting the suspects: WESH 2...

State of the Union addresses are like appendixes: They may serve a purpose but nobody knows what it is. So there’s always a temptation to insert into them a “moonshot goal” to show you’re doing Big Things. This year, President Trump’s moonshot was ending HIV transmission in the United States by 2030. Poor choice. For decades, the AIDS lobby has seized huge swaths of limited resources — not only funding but medical researchers — at the expense of diseases that kill far more people. This has to end...

Don’t ever let anyone convince you that all Democrats are complete fiscal or economic ignoramuses. It may just seem that way listening to the new darling of the radical left, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. For sure, there appear to be some economic principles that just escape them, like the impact of Medicare-for-All, but at least some Democrats understand basic tax policy and the effects of taxation. At least some understand that if you want more of something, tax it less, and if you want less, tax it more. Take, for example, Connecticut Democratic state Rep. Jillian Gilchrest’s new ammunition tax proposal. She...

The highlight of the Providence is the fact that it is not semiautomatic, but still fires one round per pull of the trigger. The technicalities of this fall in a grey area but as I mentioned, this is one of Franklin Armory’s specialties. They have dubbed this action the “digital action” not because it is electronic, but because it operates by the power of your finger (digit). As of SHOT Show 2019, all of the legal aspects have been submitted to ATF for review and are yet to be confirmed. But from the looks of things thus far, the future...

Let’s say a stalker threatens a female friend of yours. She asks you if she can borrow your handgun. She is trained and has no criminal record. Should you loan her your gun? Under a bill being heard today before the House Judiciary Committee, loaning her your gun soon could land you in prison. An exception is made only for cases of “imminent” danger — where her stalker is right in front of her at that very moment. Even those annual Boy Scout shooting trips will face legal dangers. Adults who lend troops their guns for a day might soon...

Big cats are dangerous predators. They usually attack from ambush, without warning, often from behind. That happened to a runner in Colorado. But the runner was not listening to music on earbuds or headphones. He heard something. He started to turn around. He saw the lion launching itself at him. Here is the initial report from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. From state.co.us: LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers, working with Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, are investigating a mountain lion attack on a trail runner using the West Ridge Trail at Horsetooth Mountain Open Space...

RALEIGH, N.C. — To improve school safety, North Carolina schools needs to ramp up training for law enforcement and educators, improve physical security at schools, gather better information about potential threats, and invest in more mental health support for schools, according to a state panel formed in the wake of a mass shooting at a Florida high school a year ago. The Special Committee on School Shootings, part of the Governor's Crime Commission, presented its final report and 33 recommendations to Gov. Roy Cooper on Thursday. "When parents send their kids to school, they expect them to be out of...

EPHRATA — It seems ironic coming from gun control advocates. But law enforcement agencies across Washington state are looking into threats to kill county sheriffs who have said they will not enforce last year’s gun control measure, I-1639, which was approved by state voters with a little more than 59 percent of the vote. According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, around 1 p.m. Monday the department was told about threats made online specifically against Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich. “(S)heriffs that are non compliant will be shot. (B)y me,” said the online threats, apparently posted on a Facebook page....

Fred Guttenberg ✔ @fred_guttenberg A new beginning in the fight for gun safety!!! For the first time in over 8 years, our House Of Representatives is holding hearings. Forget what we did not hear last night, it begins this morning. From the website Heavy.com, Jessica McBride described him as “one of the strongest voices for changes to gun laws in the wake of the mass shooting.” He’s also a committee member for Ban Assault Weapons NOW. Those are the people driving an initiative petition to amend the Florida constitution to outlaw semi-automatic rifles. The small beachhead that the gun-grabbers have...

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler’s (D-N.Y.) decision not to allow him to testify during a hearing on gun violence Wednesday may have helped amplify his message on the subject. Scalise — who sustained life-threatening injuries after being shot during practice for the congressional baseball game in 2017 — alleged by not allowing him to testify, Nadler “broke from tradition” by denying “a member who had a relevant testimony to give.” But the Louisiana Republican said the media attention gained from the incident provided him with a wider platform to discuss his view....

A veteran Houston police narcotics officer has been relieved of duty due to "ongoing questions" that have emerged over his role in a raid last week that ended in a deadly mid-afternoon shootout, police said Thursday. "We have confirmed that at least one narcotics officer has been relieved of duty due to ongoing questions that cannot be answered until the case agent is interviewed," HPOU President Joe Gamaldi said in a written statement. "The department made the decision to relieve the officer of duty while a thorough investigation continues. Nearly all officers relieved of duty return to work quickly after...

"We came in, and we mean business," House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, a New York Democrat, told CNN's Chris Cuomo Wednesday night. And one major item of Democrat business is gun control: I believe there are legislative fixes," Nadler said. "And you need the political will to pass it, and I think the American -- after eight years of the Republicans doing nothing and mass murder after -- mass shooting after mass shooting -- I think the politics of this country has changed. I think the election results last year showed that. We will pass -- I would venture...

PINE LAKES – A homeowner in the Pines Lakes area of east Lake County shot and killed a man who detectives believe was in the middle of an ambitious burglary spree in the neighborhood. According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report early Tuesday morning of a burglary in progress at a residence at 40724 Dee Street, which is about five miles east of Paisley and 12 miles northeast of Eustis. The homeowner told deputies he had been staying across the street at his father’s house while his own home was being renovated. The...
