CHICAGO, March 24, 2010—For the second time in two years, the University of Chicago has censored a student's post on a private Facebook page. Undergraduate Joseph "Tex" Dozier posted a joke that he had had a dream about assassinating University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer "for a secret Israeli organization." Mearsheimer is co-author of the controversial book The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy. This post prompted an investigator from the university's police department to question Dozier about his political views, suggest that he would investigate Dozier's comments on his university radio show, and demand that Dozier remove the post...

Sherlock Holmes hails as the most portrayed movie character of all time with 75 actors providing their unique spin to Doyle’s legendary character in over 200 films. Having grown up reading some of the Holmesian “canon”, I always found Basil Rathbone’s, who always portrayed a great antagonist too, portrayal very “true” to the literary characterization of the great detective – as much as I longed for some sardonic wit. I have a friend across the pond who swears Jeremy Brett’s rendition of this classic figure in the 80s and 90s for British television was the most true- to-form. Yet, due...

Merry Christmas Eve y'all! Guess what…? Our lovely Congress has just bestowed upon this nation a most wondrous gift of “universal” health care during this joyous season – a gift that will keep giving and taking. Giving in the sense that never before have we seen such blatant kickbacks and special-interest deals to put another ol’ legislative “victory” on the mantel. Taking in the sense that it’ll be we taxpayers who will reap the long-term consequences of this “reform” through more taxes, loss of medical innovation, and (most importantly) the failure of enacting true, progressive revisions to a restraining, high-cost...

Video can be found at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-LwgTbgbHE Just wanted to share this video the University Republicans made in response to Obama accepting the Nobel Peace Prize. The group went around campus for a couple hours asking students what they "intend" to do to receive a Nobel Peace Prize; for their responses, students were given edible, chocolate Prizes. :-) We wanted to make a serious and entertaining policy critique while showing the various student responses. There are some student responses at the beginning; then a hypocrisy-and-inaction montage of news clips; then back to student responses after Professor Pape's commentary at...

Dispersed between the speakers we bring in (great success with Amb John Bolton last week btw) and activist projects we work on, the University Republicans like to have some fun in adding to the political discourse on campus. This upcoming event is a great example. I thought readers would find the event info quite amusing and so pasted the event info below. Be on the lookout come Monday from 12:00-1:30 on the University of Chicago Quad as YOU have a chance to become a Nobel Peace Prize recipient! Yes, you could join the venerable ranks of activists like Henry Kissinger,...

The so-called “silent majority” broke the still morning air of Pennsylvania Avenue on the morning of September 12th, 2009. Approximately one million Americans congregated in our nation’s Capitol to make their frustrations known. Grassroots efforts in opposition to the continued growth of government have recently been ignored or labeled as hordes of ignorant radicals. People who have come to voice their concerns at town hall meetings have been disparaged by the leftist media (”tea baggers”) and degenerately denigrated as foolish due to their fervid efforts to raise logical and Constitutional concerns while desiring to engage in dialogue with their elected...

Senator Franken, being an upstanding member of Congress, is spending the recess meeting with constituents and discussing the hot topic of health care. That’s commendable. Except, I noticed something quite peculiar about an email I came across this morning from Franken.

Apparently, more than ever before, it’s in vogue to compare people to Hitler. Though some of the collations may be stretching at times, it seems that a Russian citizen found the connection between Winnie the Pooh and the National Socialist Workers’ Party so startling (probably saw this video) that he decked out his Winnie – the Pooh that is – with swastikas. The Russian Justice Ministry, instead of maybe questioning the sanity of a grown man who owns and dresses up a Pooh doll, took prudent action and added “Winnie the Pooh with a swastika” to its list of banned...

Amid a confused array of accusations last week, Governor Mark Sanford (R-SC) took to the podium to clarify the nature of his romantic life. With honesty that would make a pilgrim proud, he confirmed the media’s suspicion that his love had been divided between two parties: his Argentine paramour Maria Belen Chapur and – with recently compromised commitment – the hiking trail of the Appalachian Mountains. Sanford’s tearful, sniveling reference to Chapur as his “soul mate” made his attempted reconciliation with his wife a blanching display of equivocation; but there was one topic about which the governor was not conflicted—he...

“Never before in our history have Americans been called upon to face three grave threats to our very existence any one of which could destroy us. We face a disintegrating economy, a weakened defense, and an energy policy based on the sharing of scarcity.” - Ronald Reagan Time to Recapture Our Destiny (RNC Address - July 17th, 1980) The story goes that Governor Reagan, while strategizing with his political allies in a Beverly Hills Hotel in early 1980, found the moment opportune (as he so often did) to make a point. Leaning over to Dick Allen, his soon-to-be national security...

Senator Dodd admitting lying the other day - actually knowing about the stimulus bill allowances for AIG execs to receive bonuses from taxpayer dollars - came as really no surprise considering how he receives more financial backing from banking interests and lobbyists than any other politician (second to him in the Senate was Obama). HR 1586 is tantamount to political theater when considering its loopholes; HR 1586 is ridden by constitutional questions on whether it is a bill of attainder or even an ex post facto law - at the very least it's an under-the-table "mea culpa" by the Dems...

As y'all know, countless citizens gathered the other day (500 in Chicago) to form local "tea parties" in protest of government's recent, egregious actions when dealing with the economy and wasting our tax dollars. However, most media outlets just ignored this massive movement across the nation. I had the honor of speaking at the Chicago Tea Party, posted the speech, and also made a general video about the event I wanted to share with you. Feel free to link this up to your own blog and share with friends. We have to keep the passion alive! More tea parties to...

The Chicago Tea Party was quite a success!!! About 500 concerned citizens show up with passionate voices and witty signs. Never before had there been a better dressed protest as, unlike most, these individuals actually had jobs to step away from. :-) I had the honor of speaking today. I tried to represent the resentment of college students and other young Americans, who are realizing that we're going to be paying for the recent, egregious acts of fiscal waste for quite some time. It's been a blast (though nerve racking at times) being a CR in Obama's backyard. I just...

Had a few too many at the clubhouse before hitting the first nine…? The fountain continually fluidly flowing near the green making you somewhat cross-legged…? Drank a few too many beers and now you’re playing golf with a popped collar while hitting on the refreshments chick and trying not to piss yourself…? Have you ran way too often to the “concealed” protection of the nearby woods only to find the pair behind you thinking you’re strangely signaling them to play through…? Meet the UroClub (THIS IS NOT A JOKE). “The only club in your bag guaranteed to keep you out...

Please see: http://texdozier.com/?p=65 GUESS WHAT...NO WORKING WIRELESS CONNECTION IS AVAILABLE AT THE GOP CONVENTION; SORRY FOR THE LATE UPLOAD. I GUESS TECHNOLOGY THERE IS REMINISCENT OF MCCAIN'S INTERNET SKILLS. 7:18 = Touchy feely but very nicely produced 7:20 = Former NFL player and now pastor Miles McPherson Going to speak on character but also apply to character of the nation Mayor Nagin, referring to anyone who didn’t evacuate in time said “You’re on your own”. Goes into leaning on God for help (this is starting to look like the Democratic Convention except not near as many faith caucuses) Nice prayer...
